Gulf Shores SP
For those who have stayed at Gulf Shores SP in Ala - how is the TV reception? What type of stations are available. Need to know so I know whether or not to take a bunch of video's to watch if no TV.

Reception is good for your local stations in the park. When will you be getting there? We will be there witin the next week or two, and hopefully on lot 257. Maybe see you there.

So, I take it Gulf State Park is a nice park? Thinking about a few weeks or a month there this winter, too.

Unless it is burning again, that fire was several months ago, yes, they did evacuate units from the park. As far as we know (we have a friend who visits there and they have very good friends who live in the area year round) there are currently no issues. If there were, I am pretty sure our friends would be contacting us pronto!
Of course, it takes some time to recover from fires, but, when we were there almost 2 years ago they were setting fires for renewal purposes.

I have stayed there a couple of times. They don't have any shaded sites but really great bike paths. Several miles long with a bathroom in the middle. Great place to ride bikes.

Sorry I didn't get back to this thread. Yes they had a fire near the end of June of this year. It's right close to the CG also. 1000 acres is what burned and just north of the park is where the fire was. Shade is definitely a premium here but that was due to hurricane Ivan and I don't remember the exact year on that, my guess is 6-7 yrs ago. The sites are very big for a CG and they all have FHU. Its still a beautiful park but not as much as it use to be. We are here in the park now and will be until April of next yr. Lots of biking trails, golf course right in the park, Gulf Coast fishing, swimming beaches etc. Pier fishing also on the longest pier in the Gulf. 1500' out. Lots of good eating places. Can you tell? Its a great place.
If you plan on staying here anytime between Nov 1, and Apr 1 I would suggest that you try to make reservations. Its not unusual for the 496 sites to be reserved in that time period. This weekend the CG is full due to the Shrimp Fest in Gulf Shores. Monthly rate from Nov to Apr is between $425 and $450 per mo. plus tax.
Any further info you need feel free to ask.

What are some of the better sites to stay in? I'm guessing the lake views would be the best. We'll be there the second week of Jan. Can you reserve a certain site ahead of your arrival, the gal at reservations said we could drive around and then pick our site. I also put this post on Campgrounds State, Provincial & Federal but looks like Dave you might be the best to answer my question? Thanks

Dennis, I put a post in here earlier today I thought, but it is now gone. Well I know I did the answer, now wondering if I hit the Submit button. LOL
Anyway, what the park told you is right about reservations. You are guaranteed a spot in the park but not a particular site. On the water total now is $495.50 per month that includes everything with FHU. No cable but antenna has great reception. Satellite is good due to the fact that most of the trees got taken out by hurricane Ivan. There is really not a bad site in the park in my opinion. I am on the water on Gator Rd lot 255. 13 miles of paved bike and walking trails, nice pool new I believe 2 yrs ago. Lots are huge for a CG. Hope this helps you out. Any more questions please feel free to pm me or email me.

Hey Champ49 - you are not going senile. There are *TWO* threads running for effectively the same topic. The other topic is
http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=47064
where you posted a reply earlier today.

Thanks Dave and Carl we have your site for January first time at Gulf Shores. The bike trails sold it for us, looks like you can ride to town even. With a beach on one side and bike paths on the other the place sounds great!

Great campground and close to the prettiest beaches in the world. Sorta sorry so many people know about. I grew up in the area when there was really nothing around. Can't fight change, so come on down and enjoy the Gulf Coast Hospitality. I think you will really like it.
