Moc forum pet peeve
We had a topic for campground peeve's. One of mine is spell checker. I use the spell checker that you can get from here. It makes it a whole lot easier to read some of the posts. I guess being married to a school teacher brings that out. Always check your spelling

You havr to download it. If you reply in the quick reply area it is the 2nd button in from the right. Once you download it that button changes to check spelling. Works really good.

R&R-Rigged&Ready
Just go to the bottom of the page and you'll see several boxes you can click on for various actions. One of them is "Check Spelling". That's the one. But it may be browser dependent. So if you're using Foxfire or something other than IE you may not see it.
RVWheels
I did a search. Here is how you get it. As you could tell it will not always work if the word you use is a real word. But if you misspell a word it usually will tell you.

I forgot to mention the one thing I like is you can add to the dictionary so all of the acronyms we use can be added in.

Thanks, friends, that explains it. I have been using Firefox exclusively for some time now. I have discovered several 'little things' that do not work as they do on IE.

It was a while back that we were talking about spell checker and you put something like this on. That's why I said you need to watch which word you use.

I copy and paste my post before I post. Put it in my email, has a spell checker. Then if there is a misspelled word. I copy and past and put that in my post.
Occasionally it misses a misspelled word, but not often.

I just don't want to make members self-conscious about posting because of fear they might misspell. Although I appreciate good spelling and grammar (I spend half my life fixing the doctors' lack of), I also appreciate the spirit of this forum where no judgments are made. Just my 2 cents.

Hmmmmm...I have tried to stay away from this thread, but cannot contain myself any longer. A spell checker is only SO good, as it is in truth a spell recognizer. Though it does work, it is no substitute for old-fashioned editing.

I agree Wordsmith. Some of the newspapers have definitely let the proofreader go and rely on spell checkers. When I read I tend to see all the mistakes. Having said that, however, I am guilty of not proofreading when I am posting on the forum, so I do not want anyone judging me because I am in a hurry.
Thanks, HamRad. We really need the break. It has been a very stressful few months. I wish it had worked out for us to go to the rally. We will keep trying.

I am very eloquent in typonese. Even with typos, we all seem to get the gist of what is being relayed. Happy trails,,

Exactly, Roy. Editing appears to be an endangered species, but there is a time for proper spelling and grammar as well as a time when we can be flexible with the rules. A forum is one of the later IMHO. That said, there IS a line between making a mistake and being sloppy!

I was worried when Wordsmith joined us but he assured me he wouldn't judge our grammar. I try to read what I'm typing but sometimes I forget. My mind goes faster than my fingers! I sure don't want to discourage those that may be keyboard challenged. When you think about it, when many of us went to school, computers had not become common so "typing" was not as important as it is now. (I think that is a bad sentence but it has been too long since English classes!) Also for the past 35 years I have composed "business letters and documents" which sometimes are not what English professors consider proper writing. I'm sure others are in that same situation.
Happy trails..........................
