2007 model gripes
New Monty owner and reading through the wealth of info on this forum. Not many posts in this topic area lately but here are some obvious things that Keystone could have done better on in the 2007 models.
First off, our unit is a 3000RK that we have had for a week now.
In the 2007 models the glass on the overhead cabinets and more importantly on the door of the DVD compartment are smoked and textured (little bubbles). The remote control for the DVD can not pass it's signal through the glass and there are no cabinet supports to hold the door in the upright position....so to use the remote, you must get up, walk to the DVD unit, hold open the door with one hand and operate the remote with the other hand.
I guess Montanas are not designed with much expectation that they will be used in a boondocking mode. There are a ton of 12v lights throughout the unit but not a single florescent or LED light to conserve power.
Just my two cents worth.

We dont have the smoked glass on the door of the dvd ..nor the door so our remote works.
I totally agree about the florescent lighting...I so thought that Keystone would of put in one at leaset.

You might try to find the remote receiver on the DVD player, the door was blocking ours, so I just moved it to the side a little bit. We have the same glass in ours and the Directv receiver, DVD player, and the surround receiver remotes work good with a little moving to one side or the other.

I have a new 3000RK and the remote works fine thru the glass. Batteries may be low in your remote? DVD not much of a unit to start with.

Yes I had this happen this weekend while messing around with the radio/dvd. My batteries were weak, so I changed them and it did the trick....I agree these are probably not going to be a long lasting dvd player.

I replaced almost all my OEM 12V lights with Thinlites. Work great.

We don't own one but does anyone else wish they would make the curio cabinet in the new Big Sky flush with the top and bottem of the cabinet? It looks like it slipped about 2 inches when they installed it.

JMHO but I think curio cabinets, curio shelves (we have 3 in our 3400) are crazy things to put in an RV. I'm going to try baskets (Native American) (they won't break) and museum putty so I don't have to take everything down to travel. I know it is nice to have that homey feeling when parked but I don't want to work so much before we take off. That said, my DH just told me we are taking our Corona Parrot steins with us for the curio shelf.
Happy trails.......................

I thought about that too. It would be a pain to have to pack everything away evertime you move. I just think it would look better if they made it even with the cabinet it's attached to. I wander if it would be an option to just leave it off if you ordered one.

The first thing which turns me off of the new units...the glass windows on the cabinet doors. There are too many of these glass gabinet doors where there used to be solid wood. I know it saves them some money but I think it kind of makes the units look cheaper. This is totally a personal opinion. We have to carry the glue gun in the rv because the glue they use behind the glass lasts about 2 trips. The glass starts to rattle and that is where the problems start.
I also think the wood around the slide outs is starting to look a little generic. The Montana placque on the slide outs looks cheap. The window over the dresser in the bedroom now has wood which goes all the way up the window. I think it looked better with the fabric around the window. I know this is really petty. I do love the new key hiding box on the window seal.
The small things make these great units stand out so bring them back.

This is a good example of different strokes for different folks. The one thing I liked about the Montana over other units we looked at was the wood around the slide outs and the Montana carving. And I think the glass doors add class. We have not had a problem with any of our glass.
Happy trails....................

Sorry, I must have still been asleep this morning when I wrote my comment. I didn't mean the wood around the entire slide out looked cheap. Ratherthe little part of the wood which has "MONTANA" carved out is starting to look a little generic. I do like the wood around the edge of the slides.
My glass problem is with the cabinets in the bedroom. I have had to completely take the glass out, scrape all the glue out, reinsert the glass, use the little metal spikes to keep it in place before putting new glue around the glass. The glass would rattle really bad when you opened/closed the door before I did this.

Well swapped out the batteries in the remote and still no joy getting it to work through the glass....Tried to reposition the unit to ensure it is not the wood blocking the signal but there is a form fitted mounting it fits into to keep it in place.
By the way, the DVD player gets EXTREMELY hot when the fire place is turned on (and producing heat). IF there is a problem with premature failure of the DVD units it will probably be brought on by thermal stress and overheating issues.

I've been using my DVD with the remote through the glass and no problem. I was also concerned about the remote not being able to connect with the infrared sensor, but it works for me. I also like the glass, that was one of the selling points to me....it makes the unit look more richer and deeper than just more regular wood cabinet doors. I haven't had any problems with glass rattling (yet) ....and actually, I haven't had any problems yet with anything causing me to replace something or put my unit in the shop. It hasn't been to the dealer since I picked it up a year ago. knock on wood

Thanks Dave and Cheryl, I was beginning to fell "Unique!" TWO common thread between our units are "2007" and "Venitian Gold" decor. That and the dealer confirmed that Keystone was aware of the problem with the 2007s.....

I can try brand new batteries in the remote, but I have my doubts, that's the problem. Sounds like something to bring up to the dealer on my visit in 4 weeks if the new batts don't cure it. Thought it was just a "design flaw"...

We have a 2000 3255 that we bought previously enjoyed. We like the glass in the cabinet doors and have had minimal problems with the glass coming loose - only 2 panels have had to be reglued since we bought the Monty.
