Electric bike rack

Looking at a few electric bikes but first need to see what racks are available to carry them. Will the 2 in hitch be capable of carrying a bike rack with 2 65 lb electric bikes? Most rack I have found say not to be used on 5th wheels.anybody out there that is now carrying electric bikes? If so what do you use?

That is about the only one I have found that says good for 5th wheels.is it fairly stable with the bikes on it? We are looking at 2 lectric brand bikes with 3 in fat tires.

We have Magnum Classic ii Folding ebikes (48lbs each). They fit in the truck bed between the hitch and Window under the tonneau cover.
We have a 60"x20" Hitch carrier (70lbs). We carry the generators back there (98lbs)
2019, hitch is rated for 300lbs.
I believe later models they upgraded the hitch to a class 2.

Very secure and stable. We had 2 RADs, one has 4 in tires.

Al,

You should be able to look up the specs for your rig to determine its capability. I have an aftermarket bumper with an integrated receiver that give me excess capacity.

We have this one and I've mounted it on the front of the truck (via an added hitch) and the hitch on the trailer. Our trailer hitch is rated for 300lbs.

Rack states it can hold 2, 70lb bikes. (Note that on both our bikes, the top frame bar is slanted down towards the seat so I use a bungee cord to keep the bikes against the top bike rack support.)

Also DW has a step-through Rad Power bike so we purchased the Hollywood rack top bar adapter so the bike frame has a top bar.

Lastly, although the bike rack locks, we also use a cable lock to lock the bikes to the truck or trailer frame.

The Electric Bike Company recommended the Swagman bike carrier for their electric bikes, which we own. This rack is rock solid and I never have to worry about our two expensive ebikes coming off. Etrailer carries it, and it's rated for 5th wheels and everything else.

We use the Hyperax Volt RV on our 3791RD. It is approved for fifth wheel RV use with a hitch receiver - not mounted on a 4" square bumper. It handles two 70 pound bikes - ours are 65 each. My only disappointment is I can't pull the rear tray out all the way with the rack installed. It is sturdy and the bikes look pretty secure in the rear camera as we travel. Pretty happy with it. I also have the Swagman e-bike rack rated at 70 pounds each bike and 5th wheel approved. Works fine. BUT, we don’t have fat tire bikes and if one wants to use this rack for fat tire bikes, tire holders large enough for the tires are sold separately.

X2 ^^^ What they said about Swagman E-Spec https://www.swagman.net/products/espec-rv-approved. Approved for fifth wheel trailer, motorhome, truck, vehicle and toads. We use a 2" frame-mounted hitch receiver. The bike rack hitch pin is screwed on to the rack for a very secure fit. Also use a hitch tightener for added insurance to keep the hitch from moving.

I purchased a Swagman bike rack for my 5th wheel which carries (2) Electric Pedego E Bikes. The bike rack has individual matching locks built in for each bike.
Can’t say enough about this bike rack, I would rate it a 10 of of a possible 10.

I did have another Swagman bike rack for my mountain bikes, that was almost brand new, it just wasn’t certified for the 5th wheel rigs.

That's the rack that I got when we purchased our bikes. We have traveled about 1600 miles with them and have had zero problems. We are well satisfied with it.

The spec. for the hitch is 300 lbs. We are under that limit.

We also carry two e bikes on the back of the Monty use a swagman rv compatible rack rated at 150 lb capacity. The only issue is the first bike sits too close to the back of the Monty loosen and twist the handle bar or put on an extension

Installed a drop hitch receiver to provide adequate clearance between the bikes and trailer and makes it easier to install/remove the bike cover AND is lower to make it easier to install/remove the bikes on/off the rack. We use the rear trailer camera to monitor the bikes while towing.

Swagman Escape. Its RV rated and rated for two 65lb ebikes. Its rock solid. It holds the bike in the rack by the front tire. It does not touch the bike frame. This the third rack. And the other two did not do a great job of holding the bikes and they scratched the paint. But this is also the most expensive of the three. But you do get what you pay for.

We just bought the Mototote carrier, they sell for motorcycles and e-bikes. It is very well made. They are proud of them but I wanted something HD our bikes weigh 70+ and that’s alot of bouncing back there. Plus we needed something that didn’t touch the frame.

I spoke with an e-bike consultant and a bike store owner last summer. My wife and I bought 2 e-bikes that are HEAVY. The person we spoke with sells all brands and types of e-bike and regular racks. He told us the only the Hollywood RV Rider e-bike rack is designed and warranty supported to be attached to the back of a towable trailer or 5th wheel. Other brands state they are RV approved but that is for motor homes or on the back of a towed auto attached to a motor home. He knew this because a very high end brand carrier broke with 2 bikes attached. When the bike owners tried to get an insurance and warranty claim they were denied. Again, this was last summer so other brands might have caught up. We bought the HR and have traveled up and down California’s terrible roads without an issue. No shaking whatsoever.

Yea Chef, I looked at those like you have and decided against, I know that if mine gets bad per se, I can unbolt the 2x2 and replace it with the solid steel piece I have. The rest is above and beyond strong enough.
