Propane Regulators
Hello All, I've been fighting and issue on my 2017 3160RL since I bought it in 2020. My propane tank on the ODS (Vehicle Driver's Side) will work for a day or two and then cut off. Over last couple years I've replaced the Red Regulator, Main Regulator and the tank itself. This has not solved the issue.
I've been thinking of why I would have a regulator on both tanks since the ODS feeds into the Main Regulator. I thought maybe they are fighting against each other and that's causing the problem? I was thinking of removing the red regulator and trying it, does anyone have knowledge that this would cause problems?
I have looked through many passed threads and haven't found one with this exact issue. Someone a few years ago said they had removed the Red regulator and just slowly cracks open the tank so that the shutoff inside the tank doesn't close and that they have had no issues since doing that, and it had been a couple of years.
Any expertise would be appreciated.

On my 2007 I removed the red regulator that was leaking. No problem just had to open tank slowly. I just replace both of my regulators on my 2018, one was squealing when in heavy use. Not expensive and happy to be done with noise.

As to your troubles, did you replace the short hose that attaches to the tank. I think sometimes they can get clogged up. (Since that is about all that is left)

From an earlier discussion on that red regulator valve, here is a thread that explains why it is there.

You might try replacing the hose for that tank. They have a valve in the connector to shut off flow in the event of a leak. Could be that valve is going bad.

I removed the red regulator years ago. Understood all the precautions against doing this. It worked perfectly for many years without it.

Thanks for sharing this. I also have the red regulator and wondered by it was there. Well, not "really". I was curious but dismissed it from my mind as I've never had any issues like this with my Montana.
But since the red regulator topic came up, and you cited that post, it did make me wonder. Well, now I know. Thanks!

I forgot to mention, I replaced the hoses that attach to the individual tanks. That was the first thing I tried. Thanks!

Do you leave both propane tanks open, relying on the transfer switch to work? I have done this for many years and had no issues.
