2022 Western Region Rally Mesa Verde NP

Mesa Verde NP

Alta and I will be organizing a group trip to Mesa Verde National Park. You can find information about this park at https://www.nps.gov/meve/index.htm.

The park is about a 20-minute drive from the resort. We will plan for most of the day, but people can come and go as they choose.

The park entrance fee is $30 per vehicle. However, I suspect we have a number of people who have the National Park Service America the Beautiful senior lifetime pass. With this, admission is free for everyone in the vehicle. We could carpool with those that have the pass. If anyone is interested in buying the senior lifetime pass, it is available at the park; $80 for those over 62; well worth it if you plan to visit national parks; a few uses pay for it.

We do not have a date yet as Dan is still working on the schedule.

We don’t have to make reservations, but will compile a list of those that want to go.

Please reply with the names of those that want to go and if you have the pass.

Mesa Verde

Brian and Cindy Stevens will go. I was there as a grade-school child and still remember how interesting it was.

We may join in, but last time there (15-20 years ago) wife wouldn't do much exploring. She didn't want to try going up and down the ladders to see various sites. Maybe they have changed things since then.

Terrie and I will attend. We both have Senior passes (back when they were $20). Any idea what we will need to do to sign up for tours? With a group as big as ours and different physical capabilities it should be discussed early.

Henry and Lita are interested. I have the Vets National Access pass, used it at the Moab parks a few years back.

Climbing ladders and hiking are always optional. If you don't want to climb or hike, there is still plenty to see. Last I checked, ranger led activities were suspended for covid. I'll research it and also see if tours are available. If not at Mesa Verde, there are similar climbing/hiking options at other local parks (Hoven Weep, Canyon of the Ancients, etc). See post 3 https://www.montanaowners.com/forums...ad.php?t=86024

Ute Mountain Tribal Park offers private tours for groups or individuals for a small charge. Most people don't see this; you have to be a Ute or be escorted by one. They also have ruins, ladders, etc. Pottery remnants laying all over the place.

We had our first Montana rally 8. Indiana last year. Would love to try different rallies. Where and when is this rally?
