Dometic refridgerator fan

We are finally getting to check out our new Montana 3665RE we purchased last fall. All seems well except for one water line needing tightening.

However there is a small fan at the top of the outside fridge vent (behind it) just under the fins at the top (back of fridge). The fridge vents through the side of the slide out instead of the roof as in most RV's. This fan has been running all day and is quite annoying.

Is this normal? When I took the vent cover off for a few minutes for a look ... it stopped after a minute or so. After the cover was put back on it started again and has not stopped.

If it is really not necessary I will just disconnect it. Any ideas.

the RV is still under warintee get a dealer to fix it , mine dont come on unless it gets realy hot, but I dont hear it either when it's on.
but it is a necessary to have for cooling being we dont vent through the roof.

The fan has a thermostat on it and needs to come on for the refrigerator to work efficiently. When the ambient air gets warm in the afternoon the fan will run when the thermostat turns it on. You do need it!

I actually added additional fans - can't hear them when they're on (and they are thermostatically controlled).

I'm looking into replacing the Radio Shack auxiliary fans I installed with a fan motor that is whisper quiet.

I bought 120mm fans from: http://www.quietpcusa.com/Quiet-Comp...FRIhnAodxw7k3A - the cheaper ones. Yes, they are 12 volt.

When I discovered how to remove our fridge and saw it had only one fan I instantly thought of the old PC cases I have "laying around" waiting for recycling.... then thought of ducting the fans better out the access panel with some spare plastic and getting some spare insulation and stuffing it on top of the fridge as that airgap is a waste of space and a heat trap for sure.

anyone else slide some insulation over the fridge in the kitchen slide-out units?

I figured I'd hook up the 2-3 extra 12V fans up to the same temp. sensor and thus simplfy the wiring a bit... or if necessary figure out a relay situation(maybe -if necessary)

The fans are a good idea. That should help keep it cool. Not sure about the air space over the fridge.... That might be there for circulation. The more air circulation is probably a good thing. Perhaps someone who actually knows will come along and straighten me out. I'm just guessing.
