Replacing Shower Doors with curtain

Hi folks. I have a 3810MS. My wife and I decided we would rather have shower curtains than the doors. So I removed the doors today. Next step is working to get all the silicone caulking off the shower enclosure.

The thought was that we would buy a tension curved rod for it. I measured the distance between the walls and it was 49".

When I started to looking in all the usual places for the rod I found I could not find a tension rod suitable for a 49" stretch.

So if any of you that may have also replaced your shower doors with curtains:

1. What product/process did you use to get all the old silicone caulking off the enclosure?
2. What product did you use to fill the holes left behind by the screws that held the shower door tracks on?
3. Where did you find a tension curved rod (or if not a tension rod, a permanent mounting rod) that would accommodate a smaller shower measurement than 60" or 72"?

Thanks all :-),

Rob

I saw a roll up horizontal shower curtain (like a roll up blind) at the Vendor's exhibit at the rally. I will get a picture and their info and post it.

I found several designs on Amazon that will fit the space. We are looking at a 3811MS and are similarly inclined to get a shower curtain. Easier to clean a cloth liner. JMHO.

Rob, acetone will loosen the silocone if it’s on fiberglass. DO Not get it anywhere else. If the holes are in the fiberglass they use to make a product in a tube same color as the showers. You clean up the hole and use a flex blade to apply, smoothing it out. Cleanup with acetone. If your close to boat repair place they may have it. It’s like gelcoat. Hope this helps. We have the shower doors also but put a curtain inside to help keep them clean. We used a regular rod and it’s above the fiberglass.

I had a pleated shower door on my last trailer, way harder to keep clean than glass.

we pulled our glass doors out and did a curved rod, more room. filled the holes with white silicone, the old silicone peeled right off. Curved rod had a lot of adjustment to fit many size openings, DW got it at Target

I'm currently at the rally and a vendor here (Shade Man LLC) sell a cool curtain that's mounted to a frame and it slide across in tracks. Not sure if that is something that interests you, but thought I would mention it. It sells for approx. $180. Their contact number is 574-320-9095. Website: www.shade-man.com

We leave the glass doors open and latched. Have a shower curtain on a rod on the inside of the glass door. Works great at least for the last 5 plus years.

Our door shattered on a trip. This resulted in one of our better upgrades as I purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond a curved shower curtain rod. It now offers more room when showering and the wife selected a much prettier curtain then the glass doors.

Our shower enclosure is attached to the wall with small push-pin anchors that have a plastic head about 1/2 inch in dia. The plastic push pin is in the center. They're kinda like an anchor - you insert the entire pin in about a 1/4" hole then push on the pin and the plastic anchors inside flare out. You can get them in white or kind of an almond color. Lowes has them. They protrude out about 1/16th of an inch from the wall. They would fill your hole.

It appears that this "Shade Man" is simply reselling Irvine products.

my wife and I changed our tri-door nightmare out for a version of the pleated shower door shown above. We love the way it wipes the water off and empties it back into the shower basin. It took roughly 4 hours to install the system correctly. Including sealing, which you MUST do.

We had first tried the shower curtain but decided quickly it was just not going to work for us. However, anything was better than trying to rebuild the tri-door nightmare again. Third rebuild in less than two years.

The shower curtain one of the few things my DW says no to. We had one on our first tag along and it would always come in and stick to you.

Thanks church & Black, a screw came loose on the center door of 3 shower doors. Had it repaired under warranty, but if this happens again, we're going with the pleated door from

That is not normally a problem if you use a curved curtain rod. Their purpose is to give you more "elbow" room.
