Black tank question

So left water hose hooked up to the black water flush for several hours, with the black tank closed. Wanted to flush it out good. Came back and had water coming out underneath. Removed just the front lower section of the plastic skirting. It was only wet under the tanks. Does anyone know where it would come out of ???? Can't find it, tank still functioning as normal.

Thanks and I'll never do this again....

Just so I understand, you said you hooked up the black water flush, and turned on the water, and had the tank outlet valve closed and did this for several hours? Then you only had a bit of water under the tanks?
Is this correct?

The normal result from doing this is either a waterspout out the roof vent or massive flooding at the toilet. The fact that you have neither says you broke the black tank (most likely popping off the lid on the two piece tank). You will be replacing the black tank for sure.

Lots of water came out the bottom skirt. Just don't know where it came from, not the vent pipe it's dry. Unless tank cracked up high on it. It's holding at this time, put another 10 gallons or so in it to test

I time mine when flushing with the valve closed and on average 7, repeat 7 minutes is 30 gallons. So unless your flow was just a trickle, 2 hours should have been hundreds of gallons of water somewhere.

That’s what I was thinking. Several hours is 100’s of gallons of water.

Implied above, but not stated, you should never leave the black tank flush running more than a few minutes with the drain valve closed. It will fill the tank and then start coming places it is not supposed to.

Since water pressure varies from site to site, flow meter suggested so you don’t overfill the tank. Here’s one of many choices on Amazon.

So the question STILL remains, where did the water go?

My thoughts? Although it came out of the tank somewhere, it's flowed onto the underbelly Coloplast and then dripped on out to the ground. This is assuming hundreds of gallons of water went somewhere.

Where did it leak out of the tank? Considering you added back another 10 gallons, and experienced no more leaks, I would expect to find a crack at the top of the tank, or at the joint where it connects to the toilet pipe.

Fill your tank to the brim again. In other words, fill it until water actually comes up in the neck of the toilet and then check if water is spilling out out somewhere.

I'm assuming you already removed the Coloplast?

My tank split open. On the top of the tank they glued the entire perimeter and then used tape. If your tank split you can use abs cement to glue it back. . I took the entire bottom off. Then removed the wall in the storage area. I cut the vent pipe using a Sawzall. Back underneath I cut the water level wire sensors, undid the drain pipe. Then remove 2 bolts and took a hammer to move the bracket away from the tank and dropped it. Once removed I pressure washed the tank.. Got some ABC plastic and abs glue.. ground the plastic into an almost powder. PUT the powder all along the top where the tank separate and poured the abs glue on it. After the glue set up I filled the tank and checked for leaks. Put everything back together. The underbelly I used washers and self taping screws. The vent pipe I used a 3 inch rubber boot and hose clamps.. ..

So I dropped the plastic bottom and found the tank split open at the front seam, these tanks are a two piece construction that is glued together. Split right at the inlet for the flush hose and continued around the tank seem around half of it. So it is holding half. Going to remove it and replace if I can find one. Found tag on it and manufacture. Thanks for all the replies. My stupid mistake.

JTS,

If you replace the tank, get a newer model 1 piece tank.

Do they make a one piece HT 543?

You should be able to find a 1 piece that fits.

I think this would have filled the black tank up to the toilet and run all over the bathroom

Trust me you are not the first to make this mistake, myself included. Sometimes stuff just happens. You will fix it and never forget the cause and life will go on.

I believe the HT 543 two piece tank mounts differently than the new rotoplast one piece tanks

https://www.amazon.com/ICON-14320/dp/B082FMSBF5#video-immersive-view_1715910076053

Picture shows the rail and forward and aft bolts holding up the one piece rotoplast tanks.
Third picture shows the tanks. Very different from the two piece tanks.
