RV Lots in Florida - advice??
As part of someday hopefully being able to join the ranks of the retired, we have been considering getting a head start and are looking at the possibility of purchasing an RV lot in Florida. I am interested in knowing whether any MOCer's have taken this approach. I am also interested in any knowledge that may be available through the members of reputable areas, parks, etc. and recommendations of realtors in the Florida area.

I believe Florida did away with the "HillBilly Quota" so you are cleared in.

Not a problem there. I'm not from the hills of West Virginia, but I am a guitar pickin hillbilly singer, and they let me in last year. We loved it and will be back, just not to the same area. We both sing and have a band and wanted to jam and meet musicians and singers. We stayed at Lake Rousseau, Crystal River, and the closest jam was 57 miles. We averaged filling the truck up anywhere from 2 to 3 times a week. Next time we'll get in the middle of the jams. Happy Trails, Steve

Its pretty nice looking and it would probably be on my short list. Its a pretty big park and has a fair amount of spacing between "lots".

we stayed here and it is very nice. Helen and Bill Moll are at this park
This part of Florida does get a little colder than farther south.

If you are looking in the Ft Myers area, check out Cypress Woods RV Resort. This is a 5 star resort and the prices for the lots will reflect the same. But if the $$ are not a major issue, this is at the very top of any list.

Wow, odd we didn't meet up last year. We also stayed at Lake Rouseau RV park last winter from Jan thru April. Will be back there next winter also.

Hello Dave, yes I'm surprised we didn't meet also. But if you remember the little 5 year old girl, Susie, learning to ride her bike with no training wheels, that was our Grand Daughter. We were on lot #1 right at the point on the lake. When we got there our 5th wheel said Steve - Susie and Friends, Classic Country Music on the nose, but we traded and got our Monty and didn't letter that till we got home. Maybe you got there after we traded and there was no lettering on the front yet. Sorry we didn't meet, but with a 5 year old, we didn't do a lot of the in park events, and were at jams 4 and 5 days and nights a week. When you get back to Lake Rousseau, tell everyone we said howdy, and will see them this winter for a visit. Trying to think here, (I know, big job) were you over by Larry and Rose? Seems I remember a Monty over there. We should keep in touch here and meet up this winter.

Bingo and Cathy, if you should visit Lake Rousseau RV Park, you would be glad to know of a little country Baptist Church just outside Dunnellon. I can't remember the name of it off hand, but its right across from D & I Auto Repair. Anyhow, the preacher is Wayne Barber, his wife is Linda, and she also runs Noah's Academy, a pre school and day care center. they are super people, and you would love their Church. We felt at home the first 5 minutes there. The name of the Church is River-?????, but you can't miss it. When you get traveling and get to Michigan, stop and see us at Alice Springs RV Park and Resort. We host the jams there every Saturday and being from W.V. I'm sure you like good old classic country music. Would be great to meet. Happy Trails, Steve and Susie

Bingo, one piece of advise I can give is "Read everything very carefully, including the Fine Print even if you have to resort to a magnifying glass, and ask lots of questions before signing anything". Check for Resort Fees/Maintance Fees etc. and see if you're really getting a Deed to the lot or just a lease on the lot. We got hooked into a Time Share that really sounded great, but turned into a nightmare and we ended up Paying some pretty big bucks to get a Company to take it off our hands.

We purchased a New Home in FL for about the same price that our friends purchased an RV lot in Naples FL.

Life here and love it... Right now the lots are quite reasonable while the park is still under construction.. Great time to buy.

We purchased a 3 bedroom house in Bayonet Point Florida for what a RV lot would cost. Check out Zillow for home prices in the Tampa Area.

We are not really interested in a house since we will keep our house on the river in WV. The lot may be the first of two we are considering, one in FL and we are thinking of one in the western part of the country. These would serve as anchors for our long-timing travels that we will hopefully enjoy. Good info so far, and we will continue to research the possibilities.

Some of the over 55 areas are very nice. I would have to wait a couple of years for purchases in those resorts since I am still stuck on 29!!
