Hidden Jewels
While on our recent trip to the Smoky Mountains, we ran across two campgrounds that the wife and I highly recommend.
The first Campground is Desoto State Park and is located in Fort Payne Alabama, atop Lookout Mountain. The park is very clean with very large sites. Local attractions is Desoto falls and Little River Canyon.Little
The second place is Up the Creek RV park in Pigeon forge. The place is very clean, large sites and close to all the attractions. The only drawback is they dont have a laundry facilities or a pool. (not a problem for us)
Anyway, if you are i the area and looking for a place to stay, they both come highly recommended.

Thanks Lloyd! We have family in both the areas and will definitely be checking these out! Do you need a State Park Pass to Desoto State Park? Does it have full hook ups also?

Desoto State Park offers full hook up and wifi. The signal is weak unless you are close to the bath house. They have a large selection of pull thru sites as well as back ins. Wildlife is plentiful inside the campground, we saw deer and turkey just rambling around the sites.
If you are familiar with the area, you already know about Little River Canyon. They have a scenic trail that is very nice. They also offer the best swim hole in the world. I added a pic of it to share.

Jimmy,
You wont be dissapointed. The Park is actually located south of Chatanooga TN.
When the highway department was building the road along side Little River Canyon, they came upon a Massive Mushroom shaped rock right in the middle of where the road was supposed to run. The HD said to blast the rock out of the way but the crews refused. In the end, they built the road on both sides of Mushroom Rock. Do a google search for Mushroom Rock in Little River Canyon. Its pretty impressive

Yep I googled it and That place is a trip! Me and my wife have traveled to a lot of places outside the U.S. but the best sites we see are here in the good Ole U.S.A. in our RV and that place will be on our list as my wife has never been to that part of the Country and she is in for a treat

Thanks Lloyd, now we have to go to Desoto. What site were you on? We will be at River Plantation in Oct 6-19 and will check out Up the Creek. Again thanks.

We just left River Plantation last week. While you are at River Plantation, check out the public campground on Lake Norman, beautiful views of the lake, $28 per night. First come first serve. Some with full hookups, some with water/electric. There is a brand new park on the lake, cannot remember the name, just up from the Marina, the cost $69 a night plus tax. Did not bother to check that one out.

That will go on my bucket list.
My favorite place to camp is in Wyoming. Union Pass it is on a mountain top 9300 feet elevation. It's about 40 miles across the top of the mountain. All the wildlife in Wyoming is up there. Every thing from Marmont to brown and black bear, great fishing in the streams and lakes. I think the prettiest place in Wyoming. My second favorite place is the Shirley Bassin in Wyoming. It's 640,000 acres of nothing but prairie. If you wont to get away from everything this is the place. If anyone is interested check en on Google.
