Moving Spare Tire Hanger??

Has anybody moved there spare tire up closer to the the axles.
It seems to hang real low and concerned about catching on something when the front goes up and the rear goes down.
Just wondering??

Hi Folks,

To get a feel for how close it is to draging, take a long piece of string, place one end at the bottom of the rear tire then stretch it out to the lowest point at the rear bumper. Now look at whether or not the spare is indeed lower than the string. If not you have got nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps and Happy Camping

Steve,
The 3400RL 5th wheel does not have a rear bumper.
The tire is the only thing behind the wheels.
The tire mount is about mid way from the wheels and rear of the trailer.

Sorry, I should have said, stretch the string from the bottom of the rear tire to the lowest point at the very rear of your unit, what ever that happens to be.

Happy camping

I've never bottomed out the 5ver. even in some areas that I would expect to. I think the lay out and clearence is great! my old MH it did quite a bit.

Don't think tht I like the idea of dragging the spare against a roadway but better the spare than the back of the 5er!!

So far, in three years of towing, the 5er nor the spare tire have touched the roadway. (Knock on wood!)

We've never bottomed ours out nor caught the spare tire, either. I'm not positive the 3400 has the spare in the same location but it's not a problem with ours.

I moved mine ahead of the axles. Reason being I plan on putting a hitch on and wanted to get the weight forward plus get it out of the way for the hitch. It wasnt very difficult to move. A couple c clamps for those extra hands and a drill.
