Schwintek (Lippert) Slideout Motors

I have one Schwintek slide that's always been slow or hesitant, and has been repaired more than once, and now has yet another bad motor. Does anyone know if the existing 300:1 motors can be replaced by the more powerful 500:1 motors, without a rewire, i.e., plug and play?

Vroom Slideout Solutions sure looks interesting to me. I can understand what an improvement this would be for some Class As that have a big slide or two on the Schwintek system. But for my little bedroom slide I hope the schwintek lasts a bit longer. Wow - does this system look stout! But for $2500 or whatever I am not in a hurry.

I'd touch base directly with Lippert technical support. I've not done so myself, but hear that they are good to work with. Let us know how you come out.

Edit: You could also post your question on the Lippert Scouts Facebook page. They have at least a couple of reps trolling the site most of the time attempting to help others or point them in the correct direction with contact names and numbers.

At a minimum, you'd have to replace both motors so they match. As I understand it, one has more torque for heavier slides compared to the other. The 300:1 or 500:1 is just a ratio, not necessarily how fast they run.
I had to replace one of mine recently as the wiring had pulled loose where the motor was improperly installed and allowed it to twist until it pulled out. Got a replacement motor on Amazon for $78.00. CW wanted nearly $300! The old one is still good, I just have to re-solder the connections on the circuit board on top of the motor when I get around to it.

I have asked Lippert for info and posted on Lippert Scouts as suggested; no response yet. In the meantime, after watching YouTube vids and a suggestion by another poster, I've narrowed the problem down to an improper install from the factory, exacerbated by wear. The h-column on one side is misaligned, causing the motor to struggle more, and now rubbing on the slide side. I even paid a mobile RV guy $165 to confirm the problem, then have him tell me he doesn't go into that level of repair and I'd have to take it to the dealer. That ain't going to happen. For anyone else having this problem, after disengaging the problem motor, I can easily pull/push on that side while the DW activates the switch. The motor can be disengaged from the outside even if the slide is fully extended.

Myrvworks has an excellent YouTube video on replacing the h-columns and motors with the slide out open

I am correcting what I said above. It took 15 minutes of push/pulling to get that slide in. The working motor kept timing out, and the DW had to press the switch out momentarily, before pressing it in, and having it travel maybe 4" each time, with me pulling the disengaged side in accordingly. What a PITA. I am now thinking the wall cutout might be wrong from the factory. Have another mobile tech coming out tomorrow; he says he can fix it, we'll see. And I'll look up that video as suggested by Ricos Ride.

I had a similar issue with a Jayco product. The slide out motor was replaced three times. Finally a tech realized the ground was poor and caused intermittent issues like you described. Do yourself a favor and check the ground

You can put the controller into override mode and will work better. If memory serves you press the button on the controller 8 times, holding o the 8th press until the lights flash. This overrides the hall sensors and just runs the motor in without stopping. You'll have to pull/push the other side and keep up withe the working motor.

We were told no when we asked this for the Shwintek bedroom slide in our 2017 3000RE. The 500 motors require stronger rods and gear strips and such, it's not a straight swap. That said, the last time we had the Schwintek in for service (aka complete refit, it's been repaired several times, it's a whole saga) Lippert told our service folks they were no longer replacing 300's and sent a new 500 kit to redo the slideout mechanism.

Just ruminating but why would a so called quality product be supplied with the Schwintek slide out system. Ten years ago they were a problem and from the responses here and elsewhere still are an unsatisfactory system.

I think much of the problem is some mfgrs. use the Schwinteks on slideouts that are too large and heavy for the mechanism. I have a second, much smaller and lighter slide that has never been a problem.

I have 3 schwintek slides and 2 hydraulic ones. If I had to choose, I would have made them all hydraulic, but I'd rather have the schwintek than cable slides by far. Very simple mechanism, easy maintenance and relatively easy to fix if something goes wrong.
