HAYMARKET VIRGINIA

We'll be in Haymarket, VA at the Mountain View campground the weekend of Oct. 22-24. It use to be called Silver Lake campground years ago. If anyone is headed that way give us a holler.

Bill N Pat, we were just there the week before Labor Day. We've been to that park a number of times over the past 8 years or so. Hope you enjoy it.

We have friends that are full timers that have lived there for almost four years. The husband works for Camping World in Manassas. I've known him for 35 years. If I have problems with my camper he's the first person I ask. He's been a great help since we started RVing.

We try to make it there a couple times a year. We really like the campground especially at this time of the year. I think this week is the peak of the season for fall foilage in that area.

We will probably arrive around 12:00 - 1:00 Tomorrow. My sister and brother-in-law are headed up with us. They camp in a 36' Challenger. We should have a great time.

Ask your friend if she's helping to take care of the cats. If she is, she'll know what I'm talking about. It was our granddaughters who got that started.

I forgot to ask her about the cats so I e-mailed her this morning with the question.

There were several stray cats there that we had to keep an eye on because they wanted to get into the trash.

It was a very good weekend all in all. The leaves were turning and falling. Brisk mornings and good campfires in the evening. We had a great time.

One note of interest. There is rumor the campground may close soon. The area is becoming very valuable. There are several new housing developments very close where the homes are starting in the upper $400's. There was also talk of building a golf course there. It wouldn't surprise me but I hope it doesn’t happen.

We heard that same rumor. Can't blame them if they can get a lot of money for the land. Why work when you can sell and retire young??

Our granddaughters rounded up something like nine of the kittens. We called the humane society in Haymarket but they would put them to sleep. They put us in touch with some folks who find them homes so we met them at the PetSmart in Springfield, VA, where they were doing an "adoption event". I am not positive but it seems the lady who was going to be the contact point for more kittens was named Karen. Not positive though.

Our friend that lives there, Lynn, says the guy next door takes care of some of the cats. She said they live in his red shed.

I guess time will tell if they're going to sell the property or not. Lynn has been looking for other campgrounds in the area that her and Tom (husband) could live and still be close to work.

Hopefully I'll make it up there in the spring before anything takes place. It's a beautiful place.

I agree. And our granddaughters dearly love that white sand beach on the lake. When they were younger we "had" to go swimming three times per day. And the water is so clear.
