Couch size in Mountaineer 344RET vs. Futon

Has anyone replaced the couch in their Mountaineer with a Futon?

We are thinking about doing this, but as the Mountaineer is in remote storage for the winter (it's -17 degrees in Chicago with the wind chill today BTW...brrrr) we are unable to measure the couch. It's purely a guess that the couch is a full size? If anyone happens to have the measurements of the couch I'd appreciate it. We are planning on spending some time this winter looking for a really comfortable futon. I'd hate to get attached to one that doesn't fit. They have some very nice futons with storage drawers underneath.

Have done so in Tana, believe the futon is 72 inches wide, and that is as wide as we wanted to go, cause we did not want to move any of the other furniture around.

You will note, no arms on the futon, etc. Arms made it too wide, for us, that is.

Carol - thanks for responding! I think that you are the one that got me started thinking about the futon replacement in the first place! I had run across your posts and website before - and couldn't find them again when I needed them. Your other mods are really nice too - I love the shelves in the kitchen. We just purchased our Mountaineer and had to put it in storage without using. I have lots of things that I want to do in it so the research, etc. should keep me busy for the winter.

Must hurt to put a new rig in storage without even trying it out!

It did! but it hurt less on the pocketbook buying an '06 model this time of year, plus dealer is storing for free. So I'm trying to make myself content by planning for next season. I took tons of measurements when we took delivery but forgot to measure the couch. I love the look/functionality of your futon in the rig - that got me thinking that it would probably be more practical for us as well. Did you keep the couch? We think that we will store it somewhere and replace it when we trade in the Mountaineer for our fulltiming rig in 3 years.

The couch is in the pole barn, I have not looked at it since it went up there, I have no idea if critters or bugs have done anything to it. He wanted to keep it in case we wanted to put back. I wanted to give to one of the kids. Guess we will see how wise an idea it was if we ever trade Tana. Maybe in another 10 years???
