Enough Truck ????
I have a 2002 Chevy 2500 HD ( Gas) with tow package and Allison transmission.
I pull a 2000 Monty model 3250RK. Weight dry is 13,000.
Do I have enough truck to handle the mountains of Ut, WY, Ne, Co, NM ??????

From what I've read you should have no problem assuming that your gas engine is the 8.1. The 8.1 has about the same towing capacity as the Duramax/Allison combination which is about 15,400 lbs. I doubt that the 6L gas engine is rated high enough to pull the 3250 but check the Towing Ratings that Trailer Life puts out.
Good luck.

BandJ, I was wondering if I had enough also. I have a 2002 Ford F250 crewcab with a V10 (pulling a 2003,3280 Montana) that I added a GearVender tranny and the Banks PowerPack. The Banks PowerPack really made a difference with the GearVender package. We are going to take a similiar trip in August to Flathead Lake and Yellowstone then down to Denver. I think I can pull as much as a diesel now.

BandJ, I agree the 8.1 would be fine but the 6.0 would struggle. We towed a 3295RK at 13,980 lbs at the time, over the Colorado Rockies on I-70 up Vail Pass to a height of 11,060 feet with a Ford V10 gasser. We were down to 37 mph at the top but it made it just fine. Several here have the 8.1 and report it does a good job for them.
The specs say your Montana will be somewhere between 8834 and 12,500 lbs, depending on how heavily loaded. Most likely is probably in the 10,500-11,000 range if loaded for a vacation. Maybe more if carrying full fresh water. I'm looking at the specs for the 2000 3250RK so those numbers don't apply if this is not what you have.
Good luck. My opinion is you'll be fine.

We've got the 8.1/Allison/4.10/tow pkg, as well. Does a great job of pulling our Mountaineer with about that weight fully loaded (13K). HOWEVER, we do notice that it strains more than we expected in hilly terrain (but not overly so). If possible, you may want to try lower passes first to see how it reacts. If the truck is no longer in warranty, there are several aftermarket gadgets that can buy you a bit more horsepower and torque for this load.

You will have no problem just sit back and let the Allison get the job done!
