Campground around Glatinburg, TN

Can anyone recommend a good campground around Glatinburg, Tn. We are wanting to go 9/1 - 9/6 and have a 3295 Montana 3 slides. We want to make sure there is enough room and clearence for the unit.

We stayed at Tremont in Townsend. This is last campground before you enter the Cades Cove entrance to the national park.

They are not very big in numbers but did have all the ammenties you would want including cable TV. (My idea of roughing it is no cable)

Several of the sites are actually on the banks of a small river that originates in the park. It may be the Little Pigeon but I wouldn't guarantee that.

We did not have our current Montana at the time (smaller unit) but there were several large 5th wheels and motorhomes on the full hookup sites.

It's about 20-25 minutes away from the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area but the lack of traffic is worth it.

Have a really great time and look for bears for me!

The Quiet Side of the Smokies, Tremont, One of our favorite places to camp near Gatlinburg.

Lots of great places over in Pigeon Forge too, if you are willing to put up with the traffic and commontion. And, lets be serious, it is fun at least one time to do that.

We went down last fall with our 3295, and had little trouble getting sites that will hold your unit. Look around, the campgrounds will be filled with big rigs.

Would suggest you call and make a reservation, you CANNOT sleep at the Wall Mart there, it is outlawed and the fine is $500.00. You are talking Labor Day, it might be hard to get a site. Course, we never go in without reservations anymore with the big rig. (Our call, specially with the 4 yorks)

There is even at least one campground in Wears Valley these days, although I am not sure they came in from Townsend side. That hairpin turn would scare the willies out of me, it is tight, the road is rather narrow and the dropoff is long and straight down.

Have a great trip!! A great place to spend some time.

A couple of suggestions for you:

Riverbend Campground is located at redlight #2 off the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. Nice paved pads on the river. Rex the owner/operator is a nice guy. Last time we stayed it was $22.00/night.

If you are a member of Passport America the Eagles Nest on Hwy. 321 (Wears Valley Road) about 1.5 miles off the Parkway is $15-$16/night. No paved sites, but do have Cable. We've stayed their a couple of times. $7-$8 per night adds up after two weeks or so.

Pigeon Forge is only 5 miles from Gatlinburg. Park your car at the visitor center (free parking) and take the .25 trolley into town.

Have a great trip!

P.S. Visit the Gatlinburg Aquarium (Ripley's)if you get a chance. It's very nice.

KOA Piegin Forge is great as well, regular sites a little smal;l but the VIP Super sites are huge. They have about 12 of the super sites a little pricy. If you have big rig get sites 170-176 any of those are great. All site are pul through but some are smaller than others.
