Louisana in March

We are visiting our daughter in Texas the second week of Mearh and would like to visit Louisiana. Is the weather there okay in March? We want to visit New Orleans breifly. Our main interest is the local culture (small towns)and food. Are there plenty of RV parks? Any advise appreciated.

I am sure you will get several responses about the weather but just wanted to remind you about this.
Mardi Gras 2011 falls on Tuesday, March 8. Mardi Gras, “Fat Tuesday”, is the last day of the Carnival season as it always falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Most visitors will plan to arrive no later than Saturday, March 5, 2011 in order to enjoy an extended weekend of festivities.

You may find it hard to get a site during this time.

Over in Bay St Louis there is a casino with a real nice campground.
I don't thing New Orleans is that far from there.

We stayed with the Monty at New Orleans West KOA, Jefferson Hwy, River Ridge, LA. Driving to it looks like a rough part of town, but the CG is very nice with wide long sites and space between. It's a hop-skip-jump to downtown NO. When you leave, go out the same way you came in from Texas, the West side of NO. Unless they have made improvements, the East side exiting on I-10 (or inbound) is like a kiddie roller coaster that will beat you. When your TV is going up, the trailer is going down, and they just don't seem to care what the other is doing.

Happy trails.

There are two really nice state parks across Lake Pontchartrain (just off I-12) where we have stayed: Fontainbeau State Park and Fairview Riverside State Park (full hookups available.) The weather should be nice in March, but rain and cold fronts can still come at any time.
