Any Suggestions for Minneapolis area?

We started our trip from Sacramento, CA and have been up through Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and now in Custer, SD.

Looking for RV Park, State Campground, or National Park in the Minneapolis area for next week. My wife wants to see the big Mall of America and I want to find a spot that is NOT in the busy city.

Probably arrive Sunday or Monday of next week and stay in the area for a few days before heading on.

Any suggestions on where to stay and sites to see in the area?

Try calling Mystic Lake casino in Prior Lake. They have very nice camp sites with cement pads .The casino is like a large casino you would find in Vegas. It is 25 minutes from the Mall and out in the far southern suburbs( more of a country like area )I would check for availability It isnt a very big campground. If you come in on I-90 to 35 north you wont even get close to the big city traffic.Have fun!! Steve

dodge, We stayed at Lebanon Hills Regional park campground in Apple Valley ,Mn last fall. It's just off I 35E. (651) 688-1376. It's a nice park, and might be about as close to the Mall/Am as you can get. It's on the south side of the Twin Cities. On the north side there's Ham Lake campground,an ok park, but it will be a bit of a drive to get there. I've stayed in both. Bill

We lived in Minneapolis for years before going fulltime.. We always return each summer and find Mystic Lake to be a great RV Park... The Campground is called Dakotah Meadows... If coming from SD the easiest route is Hwy 169 from I-90.. Very easy to get to...

The Regional parks are super nice also... One in Apple Valley or on the East side of the metro you have Lake Elmo. They do not allow pets though.

We, too, always stay at the Mystic Lake RV park when we pass through that area. Gets better each time as they continue to make improvements.

Helen, that Apple Valley, is that the campground that is like 2 miles from the zoo??

If so, have they changed the rules lately, as we were there in 2005 and had all 4 yorkies, no problem. Well, maybe I walked 2 at a time! LOL (You know, that ole memory leaks those details.) Darn, too bad the rules change, eh??

What I do remember is that the campground was very nice, quite reasonable, staff nice, we enjoyed our nearly weeklong stay and that was over July 4th too.

I'm not sure about the one in Apple Valley Carol, but I do know that the Lake Elmo does not allow pets in the campground... They do allow them in the park just not the campground.. It is also and equestrian park so you can have your horse with you but not a dog.. Go figure.

We used to stay at the County Parks all the time.. They are beautiful parks but the woodticks got so bad that we changed to the one in Prior Lake.. No woodticks and no mosquitoes..They spray and that makes it just perfect for this gal.

The Willow River State park in Hudson WI is about 45 minutes from the Mall of America. They added a whole new campground this year that looks very nice but we haven't stayed in it yet.

The old campground has lots of treed spots. If they didn't change the road thru the old part it would be hard to get a unit longer than 32' or so thru it. We could make it with our 2880, which is ~30'.

It is a nice park with the Willow river running through it. Lots of walking trails and a water fall. You could find more info on their website. They have electric at some sites, water and a dumpsite available, but not at the sites.

There is a KOA just east of St. Paul. It is visible from Hwy 94 and would probably have the hwy noise.

We have stayed at the KOA many times and never heard the noise from the highway.

Thanks guys for all the info. When my wife heard Las Vegas type casino, that was it. Just kidding.

The Dakota Meadows park does look good though, so I think that's the one we'll try.

We are in Mitchell,SD now. We thought maybe just for the night but my sister and husband traveling with us had a blow-out with some damage to the lower panel on the passenger side (Montana 2955) so we'll be here a couple more days so he can get new tires and patch up the damage as well as we can.

I'm thinking maybe arriving at Mystic Lake Monday or Tuesday.

RKassl, If you are still there we'll look you up.
