We stayed at the KOA just a little northeast of downtown. Convenient to downtown area.
Pretty nice KOA. Lots of trees. Located on a hill side so most of the sites are tiered a couple feet so that you are either above or below your neighbor instead of looking directly into their site. Most sites are back in, not very many pull thrus. A little tight maneuvering thru the park, but not bad. They have some "premium" sites with concrete patios and brick firepits. Don't know how much extra they are.
Nice pool. Showers/restrooms appeared clean although we did not use them. Small playground if you have kids. Check directions/maps carefully as it is not obvious where you need to get off the highway.
There are a number of campgrounds out on the lakes, but we have not stayed at them.

Don't know where to stay, but we had a fine seafood dinner at Cajun Boilers.

Was happy with our stay at Cloud Nine Park on rt.70 about 8 miles out of town. It sits on a high plateau with great views. Steep winding entrance, good size gravel pull through sites, good cable, slow WiFi.

DITTO on Cloud Nine. We have stayed there several times. Would do so again. We prefer parks out of town when possible.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Cloud nine has really caught the wife's eye. I suspect we will try it. Jim
