trip to Glacier & up into Canada

We leave tomorrow morning from Chico, CA going to Glacier Nat'l Park and then on up to Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and then home.

Talked to a buddy yesterday who was in West Yellowstone and he said they had had some snow much not very much.

Well update this as we go.

We live west of the Rockies and in particular west of Jasper. Weather has been super up until now; temperatures have dipped drastically!!. Can snow at anytime with temps dipping below freezing during the nights. I hope you don't run into any ice/snow storms up here at this time of the year. All the best and keep us posted.

Second day into are trip and loving it. First day we went from Chico to Winnemucca stayed at the Winnemucca RV park. Not bad for and overnight but spaces to close together for a longer stay. Got to the park ahead of the storm.

Wanted to go to the Martin Hotel for a basque dinner but didn't want to unhook so called the local taxi (there is only one in town} and was told he would be there in 25 minutes or so. After half and hour called again and was told another 20 - 25 minutes. After another 30 minutes called again and just got voicemail then checked my voicemail and found a message sayint he could not drive into the park and would be there in 5 to ten minutes and to wait out front. NOT.

Had grilled cheese sandwiches and watched TV.

Day two we are in Twin Falls, ID. Had snow most of the way over but it was not sticking to the road so no big deal. Looks like tomorrow will be showery. Tomorrow night we will be in Salmon, ID.

We will be taking a "scenic route" so hopefully we will get at least some son.

My sis is telling me it is the cocktail hour so got to go.

We are now in West Glacier, MT. Visited the park today but it was snowy and cloudy so didn't see a whole lot.

The road to the sun is closed 16 miles in on the west and 11 miles in on the east, oh well.

Tomorrow we go around the south of the park on Hyw 2 then up thru St. Mary and on into Canada. We will be staying in Gandum (sp) tomorrow night and then on to Galgary the next day.

Hope we get some clearing tomorrow for photos.

In central Alberta, weather really turned cold here this week and looks as though it can hold out into next week. Hope your furnace and fireplace works well as we are below average temps here. To think just two weeks ago we were in the 80s.

If you are near Ft Mccloud stop at Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. It is just off Hwy 2 south of Calgary

Left West Glacier under cloudy skys in am. By the time we got to the continential divide it was totally sunny and great.

Got some great photos. Went thru customs and they didn't even charge us for the extra booze we had on board. The border folks are not the most personable though.

Headed north from the border on Hyw 2 in bright sun. Saw the bill boards for the buffalo head smash but didn
t stop. I thought it might be were the indians drove them over a cliff.

As we went north we could see big black clouds to the north but sunshine to the west. Just before Granum it stared to snow and blow with a vengence. We got into the RV park in Granum and set up without unhooking or anything else except to dump the tanks and fill with water.

It is really windy. The awnings over the slides are flaping to beat the band hope then don't tear.

To morrow we head for Calgary.

Boy, when you are in Granum you are in the middle of the true bald prairie. How your rig stays in place cause it can get real windy in that area. Great view of the Rockies to the West from there!!
