Air Borne products
Hi everyone,
Does anyone here have any imput about the airbag/shock pinbox set up that Air-Borne makes. I did order one because I got a good discount with the purchase of my new Monty. Just curious as to what everyones ideas are.
Thanks

If you mean 5th Airborne...try here: http://www.fifthairborne.com/
My dealer offers them for $700 or $800 installed.

Yes, I have one and I like it. It made ride more comfortable. I think it is easing stress to the trailer frame when going over rough road and bumps. I almost do not feel road expansion joins while driving.

Tom Gina 06,
I had a 5th Airborne installed by CW last month. I don't have anything to compare it with, but we noticed instantly that it helped with any jerking.
We are pleased with it so far.

I'm not sure how many people had the Mor-Ryde pin box installed at the fall rally in Goshen. I think at least 6 that I saw. But a few of us met at a state park later and were discussing it. I haven't heard any raving reviews on this board, by the people that purchased them> Why is that? Did it make a difference? Was it worth it? Installation was definately convienient.
I have been looking into changing mine out. I almost jumped on the band wagon and ordered one at the rally. But I hesitated. I'm the type that takes a few years to research something to see if its really what I want. Same with my last truck. 3 years of research.
Just think the Monty and the Truck that I bought was an impulse purchase. And ALL YOU people have made it a great experience to be an owner of the Montana. Now if we could just get past the Dodge and Chevy debate.

Chris - I was wondering the same thing about the Mor-Ryde (I'm in the market). Maybe you should post new, or it will get buried here.

When I decide to deal with my pin box, I want vertical shock absorbtion as well as the horizonal. It was my opinion that the Mor-ryde was predominately horizantal absorbtion. My brand of logic tells me the 5th Airborne will give both. I am still undecided.

I know its a little thing, but while looking around at a local RV place, I took a fairly close look at 3 5th airborne pin boxes. The first thing I noticed was that the stickers on all 3 were peeling off - they were essentially made of paper - does not give a very good first impression. Why skimp on the stickers that say "5th Airborne"
The second observation was that some of the welds did not look very well done.
Just my observations.

Debate? What debate? Smart people know quality when they see it.

I have one, 5th Airborne, and it does what it says (and it doesn’t have paper stickers either). Seriously, my last trailer jerked us around until we thought we needed kidney belts on rough roads. Try driving I70 through St Louis. The Airborne and MorRide smoothed out the ride to the point we don't really feel the 5er back there. It is a real pleasure driving now.

Minkid -
Were you towing with the standard pin-box before? I guess my question is did it seem to eliminate some of the forward and back surges in addition to the up and down?

Oops, I guess the original thread was about the air borne pin box. Maybe you guys are talking about the hitch itself?

Hi all,
Yes, I did put the 5th Air Borne on after I towed it with the original pin box. Had to order it and didn't come in before delivery. Minkid got his by default, helped Gina's dad put it in account they sent the wrong one first and it fit their 3295 so we kept it and ordered another one.
Having towed with both the original pin box and the New 5th AB, the difference is amazing. Got the rear of the truck ride back. Almost like the Monty is floating back there. Forgot to take down the stuff on the shelves in the washer/dryer closet down and when I opened the door it never moved. Should have but didn't. Gina's Parents almost always lost something while traveling with the rear kitchen on their 3295. After towing around 200 miles they did have anything out of place or broken. Not to mention the drive fatigue was much less because they didn't feel the Monty jerking anymore. Talked to them on the phone about it and they encountered some pretty rough roads. For the price, can't be beat IMHO. Easy install just need two people to get it done. I used my tripod stand to jack into place on both rigs.
One thing is if you do order it go to the web sight and follow the instructions call them to get the model no for the right fit. Will save you time in a long run account many RV dealer parts people do not understand the different frames by the same manufacture Lippert in the Monty's case. Nice people to talk to full of knowledge about their product. Actually got to talk to the inventor personally.
Remember the.........

Good to hear Tom and Gina,
I liked the design of the air borne a little better than the Trailair, as it hides the bag and shock out of view, and it doesn't look like its climbing up the nose of the trailer.

We've got about 3 thousand miles on the 5th airborne, can't imagine travelling without it. Everyting inside does not move. The ride is exceptional considering the towing conditions.
