Went looking today

Getting ready to go to a bigger rig, and started looking at a few today. Went to 2 dealers, and saw Bighorns, Carriage, Jayco Designer and Montana's. Most all of the units are priced about the same, with the floorplan we are looking at like the Montana 3400. Here are some of my observations without going into great details:
Bighorns-Pretty nice rigs, but the dealer had not cleaned on the rigs. Alot of saw dust in cabinets, saw some minor QC issues, trim hanging, loose seals around slides. Had nice interiors, liked the Euro chairs, corian counters, underside storage area rubber lined, good docking station, cabinets. The deal killer for us, the shower are one piece which we want, but, my head was in the skylight over the shower to fit in it. Way to short.
Carriage- Nice rig. Upgraded interior, nice materials, no visable defects. Liked the TPO roof. The only unit we came close to liking the floorplan, the bedroom was a private room, which made it small. Also did not like the outside hookups, dump valves just sticking out in the open, looked easy to tear one off.
Jayco Designer- Real impressed with build quality, provincial maple cabinets we liked. Overall interiors are good, seemed that had alot of bigger than normal windows which opened it up. Euro chairs very comfy. One piece shower, but again, shower is short, so could be the deal killer.
Montana- As of now, top of our list. This was a 2007 3400, really liked. No visual QC problems, like new docking station. This rig had the black fixtures mentioned in another post, and we liked. Thought it gave the coach a more expensive look. Light fixtures upgraded from our 2004. Good underneath storage, closets cedar lined and bigger, liked the drawers pulling out all the way. Only negatives, cheap mattress, and one piece shower/tub, but at least I can fit in with out sticking head in skylight. Can see alot of improvements/upgrades in this rig.

On a side note, one dealer had a left over Cambridge. What a beautiful rig. I can't beleive they quite making these. By far the nicest 5er we have ever been in. Put most class A's to shame. DW was ready to buy, and actually the guy made a good deal, but just can't justify for our camping needs.

Glenn-I have been moving. Company I worked with in TN downsized at Thanksgiving(Happy Holidays) and I moved to NC in March. Lived in the Monty for 2 1/2 months till house sold and we bought one in NC. Have been checking out this site when I could, just not much time to comment.

2002dura, where in NC do you live. We live in just outside Hickory in Conover, NC. there is very large dealer in Terrell, NC called Terrel Camping Center they carry Jay-co, Montana and KZ Montego Bay and escalade products. You may want to check them out best pricing around, not sure where you looked at, but they have best prices around.

I bought my montana used and I narrowed it down to a Jayco designer legacy and a montana 3670RL. The floorplans were identical, but for a bunch of reasons I chose the montana. I'm sure they are very similiar and both great units. The Jayco has some things I wish the montana had and the montana has some things that the Jayco didn't. Well anyway you go I'm sure you'll be happy with the unti that suits you.

Broome101-Live outside Asheville in Hendersonville. Thanks for the suggestion on Terrel. We are going up to Tom Johnson in Marion to look at Everest's and Cedar Creek's in the near future, and might just have to cruise on up. We like to go where we can compare a few units side by side. Hoping there are some shows in the near future also.

2002dura, Cheryl's sister and her husband live in Arden, NC. But they own the Outdoor Family Fun Center (minature golf, etc) in Hendersonville. We are heading there right from the Fall Rally in Goshen. She has installed 50 amp service, sewer & water for us at this establishment in Hendersonville. We will be staying a month or so there, then heading to Florida.

2002dura, hold on when you go to Tom Johnson for a big ride. they have lots of campers tons of them huge place. We looked at Cedar Creek before getting the Monty but nobody wanted to talk or deal with us or even return a phone call with questions on the unit, ticked me off so bought from Terrell Camping instead. Liked the Cedar Creek with bunk house slide but again when i am ready to spend 40-50K I like help instead of sitting around on golf carts smoking cigs and talking with each other. Waited around about an hour and we left never talked with a sole nobody would come out where we were. Next day even called about questions on no return call so we moved on. Don't know if they come off sticker much or not never got that far, give them trya dn let us know how it is.

There are some really great units out there these days. Quality materials and upgraded electronics seem to have moved to the forefront of the rv industry. Best of luck in your "looking" process, I am sure you will be able to find an rv that meets your needs and wants.

I definitely will do that, Dura. I also told Rodney (Broome101) that I would look him up too.
