Dodged the Bullet
Did a 3 month inspection today and found that the roof sealant had shrunk away from the molding on the rear wall. Got it resealed before it leaked. Unit is 3 months old.

Good catch, it doesn't take long before moisture would have started seeping in.
This is a good reason to keep a tube of sealant on hand.

Seems like they don't have the new rear end down at all.

We bought it on 6-2-16. 2016 375FL. I read the warranty, It states very clearly that they are not responsible for sealant on the roof , shrinkage ect and it is the customers responsibly to inspect and reapply if needed. This is out 6th fifth wheel and the first one that this has happened to. Just trying to give folks a heads up

Shrunk away or was it never applied properly?

I was on my roof yesterday looking at the rear cap sealant and thinking they covered most of the roof trim piece with a heavy layer all the way to the lip. I was going to install vent covers but found that I had ordered the wrong ones. The layer of sealant they put down on the roof vents was to my mind almost overkill but I guess more is better and besides, no one but me will ever see it. Looks like your rig did not get the same treatment. Good thing you caught it.

Thas not shrinkage...that is poor workmanship not covering the molding to start...must have been one of the workers that decided not to come to work every other Monday!
Good catch though!

I would hope so but short of removing the existing sealant and trim there is no way of knowing.

My rear cap seal was bad the day I drove it off the lot in both corners. It pays to inspect.

I had read your posting about that issue and while I did inspect the roof when I purchased it I was thinking about your posting and decided to check it again as we have the same unit. Good thing I did because its raining hard here, I just checked and no problem. Thanks for posting.

Shouldn't the roof material be under the moulding strip?

There seems to be different opinions about this. When I took my last Montana to an old local, reputable RV shop, they believed that the quality of the adhesive on Eterna-bond tape was more than adequate enough to keep it in place on top of the trim strip, and this installation leaves a layer (without screw holes)over the screw holes. I added Dicor sealant around the edges to help prevent 'rolling' and looseneing of the edges. I have had RVs with Eterna-bond tape that stayed in place (without the edges sealed) for 10+ years (until i sold them).

Mine is almost identical to yours with not enough sealant. Our roof's are TPO I wonder if this poor design was when they switched from EDPM to TPO?

I believe that is one of two things
1. Unskilled poorly trained worker
OR
2. Cutting costs per unit

I am pretty shocked. I visited my HC 375 FL today as it is still awaiting a window ordered August 5th. I got three additional ceiling AC vents from Dometic to bring me up to a total of 10 vents to optimize the AC airflow. The third dealership is where I wish I had bought an RV. They have fixed countless things that were wrong that I had not noticed. They are installing the 3 new vents at a reasonable cost. I ordered a door front and handle and hinges to make a door and tray under the oven and they did not even upcharge the parts. I agree with your assessment and wonder how they control their build crews. I wish my current dealer had been the selling dealer as they would have caught and fixed most of my issues. They were very familiar with the AC duct and vent issues while the first two dealers said 9 degrees cooling was normal and perfect. Oh well live and learn. I was surprised as the Head of service had been dealing with Forest River and Thor for 30 years and told me that they actually treat customers better than dealers. I guess He had lots of experience on how to get Keystone to do what they should have covered! Not so with General RV. This will be a record year for RV sales so they are pushing manufacturing very hard!
