baggage doors
Hi, I have a 2015 3582 and the basement door on the roadside had the support strut bracket screws ripped out. Anyone else have this issue and a long term fix. I don't wanna just have it re screwed in as I'm quite certain it will just fail again. Thanks for all your help

Have read on this forum, where folks have used adhesive to glue a metal backing plate and then reattach the strut to that plate.

I originally posted my fix to this problem a couple years ago. Here is the post from last year: http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...strut,brackets

I had same problem...measured and one side was installed a little different than the other...so reinstalled about 1/2 higher on the door when it was open to match the other side and no more problems...

I drilled out the holes on the strut so I could put in the next size larger sheet metal screws. I put JB Weld on the strut plate and in the screw holes before reinstalling. I did this about 18 months ago. It is working fine so far.

Lots have had the issue. My fix is to use 3M5200, applied to the back of the bracket in an approx 1/4 inch layer, attach bracket only back to door and loosely held in place by a couple of the screws so that you squeeze the 5200 down to approx an 1/8 inch layer behind bracket. Allow to dry per manufacturer directions. Use whatever screws you wish as the real holding power is the 3M5200. Still holding like the day I redid all my doors...years after the pull out. Trust me, this stuff works as I have been using on sailboats for years. John

Two of our brackets were incorrectly installed and they ripped off the door. Gorilla glue and more screws solved the problem. They get a bit rushed on the assembly .

The plates can be purchased at www.hatchlift.com . Good product.

Thanks to all that replied. My thought was to do the oversized plate and screw to that. Seems to be a good fix. Thanks again, you are all awesome resource.

Just remember...the inside of the doors are foam...the outside fiberglass is 1/8 inch thick max...there is nothing to secure anything to that has any structure to it. as the auctioneers say "fair warning...". Good luck, John

I used the same method-less the JB weld. Larger screws have held over three years now.
