Slide Floor Replacement

The floor in the bedroom slide is rotten and being replaced. I requested the dealer use outdoor/marine plywood as recommended by several of you guys. The dealer said shouldn't use this because of formaldehyde used in the marine grade plywood manufacturing process. Do you agree? I seemed to recall that the Katrina Trailers supposedly had this problem and that most campers have some formaldehyde used in some of the construction materials.

We just did ours and we went with exterior plywood that I put 3 coats of Spar Marine poly finish on it before installation. I think this will hold up better than factory. I do not know about the marine plywood causing any problems.

Good marine ply uses quality resins. Cheap ply and builder grade outdoor ply used glue products with formaldehyde in the past and some still do. It's easy to source better products but it costs a lot and it needs to be shipped in from certain sources, meaning more money. If I were rebuilding myself, I would take the hit and bring in the good stuff...but this has to be agreed to with people doing work and you need to make sure they use it. John

When I replaced my slide floor I used Marine plywood and before installation I coated the edges with fiberglass resin and about six inches in as the problem is that the water sat on the molding and then wicked into the floor. The resin should stop the wicking action.
