pebbling

Has anyone else had trouble with their fiberglass pebbling? We have a 2006 Montana 3400RL. Took it in to be serviced and to have some warranty work done. Dealer reported that the fiberglass on it is pebbling and that is why our decals were peeling. They had others on the lot with the same problem. Keystone offered us $1200 per side in leiu of fixing. We have turned down this offer as this trailer is only 9 months old and we feel that they should fix this problem. We are just curious as to what others have done.

I dont understand pebbling..you mean bubbling up? Is it the filon fiberglass or the gel-coat that is doing this?

I find it interesting that Keystone would offer you cash for such a problem and not offering to fix it from the git go.Do they think that by offering you cash the problem would go away? Just my thoughts.... I also have an 06 3400RL that I haven't used yet. I will be on lookout for this also.

We were told that it is called pebbling. The rig is still at the dealership which is 3 hours away from us. It is something to do with the fiberglass. Keystone was offering the $ saying they didn't "think" it would get worse.

We have not seen this pebbling. Our rig is at the dealership which is 3 hours from here. Keystone, through the dealer said they "did not think" it would get any worse. Supposedly it is on this model around the country. We don't feel the $ offer is even close to what it would take to redo the sides. We are just asking around trying to find some facts before we make any final decisions.

Spoke to "Matt" in Team Montana.. We have talked to him before and he is very knowledgeable, Pebbling"..It will appear on both the High Gloss and non High Gloss. The official name is"topical blistering" It is best described as a "rough" feel to a area of the sides of the camper Like maybe fine or medium sand paper...it is NOT de- lamination. It does not appear to get any worse. If it is in the area of some graphics it may cause the graphics to not adherer and come loose over time... I am going out and have a close look

Thanks for the update of this Rich. Did he say if there is a particular year that did it or just anytime it can happen?

He was not sure of then year But it appears to be in the 06 models. Apparently it is not something that will develop..it is there when manufacturered and Quality control overlooked it(see I was nice) We took a good look and see no evidence of Pebbling on our Built april 18th 2006 3400. Looks like a bad run of siding that was not caught in time.We will have them take a good look at the service center when we are there April 16th.

I may have this pebbling. Just last week, I discovered bubbles on the side of my nose. The size of a penney, two or three of them. I will be watching them and next trip to dealer, I will point them out.

Dave..You might want to give Matt a call.He did not mention bubbles but rather a rough surface. You may have a more serious problem???

Yeah, like frame flex. It seems to be on a line straight up the side. Not real noticeable - yet...

Thanks for research and imput. We plan to go pick up trailer this weekend and discuss this "pebbling" as our dealer called it or the "topical blistering" as Keystone calls it. Hope we can come to some resolve. The weather is great and it is time to go camping.

I have an area on my kitchen slide that I would say looks like "orange peel". It has not gotten any worse, but when I run my hands over it you can feel the "roughness" texture. I am not happy about it, but whats a fella to do? Probably won't have this coach much longer anyway.

Montana Sky, did you call team montana and ask about it? Maybe they will resolve the problem with you. It is worth the phone call to see. I think I would be upset to find this.
Are you going to the BS? Or SOB?

campbud,

I have not called Goshen on this. They have already gone above and beyond last fall in fixing my bedroom slide issue.

We have a 2005 3400RL, did Goshen say it seemed to be only prevalent in the 2006? I really do not want to fool with anything like this.

I personally would not assume anything. If you think you have the " pebbling" symptoms I would assume that you did and consult with Montana and let them make the determination.

We picked up our Montana on Saturday. They are willing to take it to a repair facility in May. Since we already have several reservations, we have set up to get the pebbling/blistering taken care of in September, when we go back to work. This will also give us over the Summer to see if there is any problem of it getting worse.

We would like to say that we are totally happy with Victor the service manager at Reeds Trailer Sales in Petaluma, CA., where we purchased our Montana. He has taken great care of our service needs, repairs, up grades, and working to solve this pebbling problem.
