Montana 331RL

Hey guys new to the forum, we have a 2022 Montana high country 331RL.

All of the outlets that are labeled solar powered are not working when hooked to shore power. We left for a couple hours and came back to the fridge and everything else hooked up to those outlets not working. Currently running extension cords to regular GFI outlets to run the fridge and TV.

Any advice to help solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

We have the same year and model 331RL. Suggest cycling the input power to the inverter Off and back On again via the cutoff switch in the forward (battery) bay.

We have tried tried that, tried leaving it in the off position for some time and then flipping it back to on. Tried on/off quickly multiple times

Welcome aboard! The 331RL is one of our favorite floor plans.

We don't have solar or an inverter so I'm just guessing. But it seems that there would be some kind of automatic cross-over/transfer switch or relay. I don't know where to direct you to look for it but maybe you can see where that equipment is managed to see if there is a bad switch.

Common problem. First question, is the inverter a Dimensions? Second question, do you have an inverter remote switch. If yes to both, make sure they are on. Should look like this. If you have just an on off switch make sure it's on. If you have a display panel, it should have a reading on it. If so what is it displaying? You also have a 20 amp built in breaker on the inverter. Check to see if it's tripped.
I saw this in a video of your unit. Top left corner is the inverter control. Is this what you have?

Just went out to ours for photos. There should be a black cover shroud to the left of your inverter. Pull the shroud off by removing two screws. Once removed you should have access to the 20 amp resetable circuit breaker. If it has "popped", push back in firmly.

FYI the auto transfer switch is internal to your Magnum inverter. See attached pics for location of circuit breaker.

Factory settings are PS1 which disable the power on of button. I prefer PS4 which enables the on off button. Your choice.

Yes our unit is exactly what you have pictured. The inverter is a dimensions. It’s only a display with a select and power button. I have turned the inverter off with the display panel. It’s reading 13.5 volts. The small 20 amp internal breaker is not tripped. It’s sitting flush to the inverter.

Ours is sitting flush to the inverter like the one in your picture.
I’ve read some other post where some people are saying the auto transfer switch is the problem…so if it’s gone bad we will need another inverter?

Possibly so.....
Try turning off shore power from the pedestal for a couple minutes with the inverter turned off as well.
Then turn the inverter power back on and then turn shore power back on.
When I had issues customer support at Magnum was helpful as well.

On a side note, check your battery voltage while you have the shore power turn off.

Voltage was reading 12.6 with shore power off, tried both equations and nothing. Tried keeping the inverter off and shore power only, then turning the inverter on, also tried just the inverter first and shore power after.

At this point it appears to be the internal transfer switch (so long as the inverter is actually seeing the input AC line voltage).

Do give Magnum Dimensions CS a call and see if they have any further suggestions. Again - let us know how come out.

Quick question is there anyway to bypass the inverter? We never use the camper unless we have shore power, getting ready to move the 5th wheel to GA in a few days so it will be at least a week before we get to installing a new one.

Thanks for all of y’all’s help. I will let everyone and the thread know when we resolve the problem.

Short answer is yes....
I'll be back in a few once I locate a suitable splice

Is there any other readings on the display? You have to go into programming mode and check the settings. What happens on occasion is the battery voltage get low and the inverter programing defaults to PS0 which disables the inverter completely. Look at the instructions I posted above.

This is what I would use to tie the input and output lines together. If this is the direction you chose to go, PLEASE error on the side of safety and turn off ALL power to your coach. There is a chance that your inverter could still be passing power and the issue is elsewhere - i.e. wiring downstream of the inverter. I know that our first inverted outlet is driver's side in our pass-through.

Quick question: are the plugs working when the shore power is off and inverter is on? If so you are on the right track. If they don’t work in either scenario I would look for a common breaker elsewhere. On our 2022 Cougar (baby brother to yours) all inverted outlets run thru a gfi receptacle that is first in the line of plugs from the inverter to the rest of the coach. (In bedroom in our case). Gfci in this case because the inverted outlets include an outside outlet in their chain. In the case where there is no power with shore power or inverter power to the outlets I would check that GFCI in our coach.

We have a 2021 3121RL and there is a GFI behind the TV which when tripped shuts everything stated off. Look for a GFI that is tripped.
