If your ammeter is digital and has a peak hold function you can get a good reading. Otherwise the transient happens pretty fast.

We have the same unit as your and all our AC unit are soft start. According from my dealer ship almost all of the AC units are going to soft start. Easier on the generators on start ups. No big start up load. but remember the AC units are 18,000 btu so I dont think that you can run a small gen set.

Are we in an alternate universe?
You do know that this thread is about soft start for air conditioning?

That could be one reason. My dealership told me it was because that one of my units is a heat pump. Can run all year long with it putting out heat in the winter.

I just got mine in January and the brochure says they all have the heat pump on the main air unit. The FB is different in some ways so I thought the start caps might be another. All I know so far is that FB’s are mandatory legacy packages and tubs have on demand hot water. You may know of more things.

Hey Bob,
Not right off hand I don't. Unit is about 12 days old so we are learning what it is and what everything does. Also I will call my dealership tomorrow ask about the soft start up. They told me something and I don't remember what they said. will let you know...

The easiest way to check is to start your air conditioner and let it run for about 20 minutes. Then shut the unit off and then lower the thermostat to turn it on again. If it has the micro-air soft start, it will not start up again for five minutes from when you shut it off. If still unsure open the cover and look for the unit. It will be mounted somewhere outside the electrical box and labeled Micro-air soft start.

Cost question
OK I'm sure this depends on a lot of factors, but I have 2 questions for you guys. 1) would you put a soft start on both AC units or just the main living area AC? 2) what kind of cost am I looking at?

See post #6 in this thread for a link to some costs. Looks like ~$300 or so.
I would probably put a soft start on both ac's if it was on my list of "to-dos". Maybe someone here can give you a answer with all the technical pros and cons.

I have Easystarts on each of our AC units. Primarily so that we can run them while off grid using our batteries. However they also allow us to run both units when connected to a 30A shore power feed.
I am hoping it’s just a matter of time before MicroAir Easystarts are available OEM though the economics may be preventative from Dometic’s POV. The capacitor start circuits currently available on the OEM AC units are not even close in performance to the easystart microprocessor based soft starts. They are well worth the price and you can usual save 15% several times a year either direct or using one of several YouTube channel affiliate links or discount codes.
