Road between Virgin Utah and Canyonville?

Fellow MOCs,

This summer I have booked a trip out west. My one stop is in Zion River Resort in Virgin, UT and the next stop is Canyonville/Bryce Canyon KOA. I see noted that route 9 east of the Zion River Resort has a tunnel with height and length restrictions that I surpass. Has anyone ever travelled between these two places/campgrounds and what roads did you pull on? I can go 50-60 miles north on 15 then on 89 but was wondering if there is another way. Thanks!

The HWY 9 route through the tunnel is 104 miles, I assume you are over 13' 1" tall and/or exceed 50' in combined length otherwise you can traverse the tunnel for $15 (and a small delay).

There are three other routes from Zion to Bryce.

I-15 – Hwy-20 – Hwy-89 is 139 miles. These are all good roads

I-15 – Hwy-14 – Hwy-89 is only 89 miles. As I recall. this is the route we took.

Kolob Road – Hwy14 – Hwy89 is 104 on really local roads. We drove much of Kolob Road with just the truck. Very scenic, but not the route I would take with the RV (too slow for sure).

Carl described your choices well. My suggestion would be explore Zion unhitched. After Virgin, go back to La Verkin and take the highway north through Toquerville to I-15. Then UT 14 at Cedar City east to US 89. Beautiful drive and only a couple of steep grades. Zion charged me $15 to go through the tunnel unhitched with my F350 because I had kayaks on top.
