I don't think those payload charts are always correct - it bit me on my 3/4 ton truck. After adding fuel, people, dogs, hitch, etc - truck weighted 8,800 out of my available 10,000 ... GVWR (actual rules)

Beginning in 2024, OEMs that want to sell medium- and heavy-duty trucks in the state (Of California) will have to ensure that some of those trucks are zero emissions vehicles (ZEVs). Over time, the percentage of those ZEV trucks has to increase, so that by 2045, any new truck sold in the state will be emission-free.

I just found this on Arc Technica this includes 3/4 ton trucks.

Hi All,

Been reading this thread. These truck payload number I could never figure out what they say and do. My deal is this. Any trailer under 10,000 LBS I get a 3/4 ton. Any trailer 10 to 16,500 LBS I get a 1 ton. Any trailer over 16,500 LBS I get a 5 ton. If 5 ton won't work I will get a Peterbilt long nose 379, 14L series 60 DD, 18 speed transmission.

It doesn't seem to make a difference what truck you have even if it a semi tractor. It's to small or to big or doesn't have the right engine or trans or not enough tires.
