What house battery do you have?

It's time to replace the battery in our 3400...we currently have an Interstate battery (SRM-24 550 CCA 690 MCA) and while it has done the job, for the most part; however, when not connected to shore power, it has been weak opening and closing slides. Wondering if this battery is underpowered or not really suited for the job?? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I put in two group 29 batteries from SAMs into our Montana and moved them over to our present SOB.

If you do no boondocking I would go to a group 27 battery. Your battery case may have room for that and make sure it is a deep cell

2 six volt golf cart batteries wired in series to produce 12 volts. Lasts a long time between charges when used with LED lights. I believe they are DEKA.

Like kab449, we have 6 volt batteries. 4 of them plus solar panels and a bunch of other goodies.

I also have 2 group 27 deep cell marine batteries. RV came with 1 battery and I added the 2nd one. Works great.

Thanks to each for your advice...bought a group 27 battery this morning and will give it a test run after Christmas to see if I see any improvement. Again, thanks to all!

Have been checking this out for several months and have decided on a pair of type 31 Sears Platinum gel batterys. A $575 investment, but I am tired of half hearted performance. LOL with your choice. (Update) Bought two DieHard rv/marine lead batteries instead Each battery has 200 minutes reserve capacity. That will do for the next 3 years or so. Got my son to do the heavy lifting to change them out. It seemed like too much money for the gels and they were just too heavy for me.

Does it matter which converter you have in the rig as to which battery you can use? We have a pair of group 24 maintenance free batteries and there is a lot of room in the battery boxes for larger batteries. So far, only when it is extremely cold do we notice sluggish operation of the hydraulics, which could also be the fluid, but I really think it is just the batteries being cold and a bit too small.

I now use 4 - 6v golf cart batteries from Costco. Two pairs wired in serial and those are wired in parallel.

As Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor would say, "More power!"

We found that our single 12v battery was not enough to do the job. It might be overkill but we added two deep cycle marine batteries. They fit in the well, are in cases and are properly vented.

Everybody is providing answers that are best for their cicumstances but don't overlook what Charlie is saying. If you do no boondocking and are almost always plugged into shore power a group 27 is all you need. That is all we have because that is all we need. Our unit is almost 8 years old and we just this summer put the third battery in it. Averaging just under 4 years per battery. Anything above that is probably overkill on needs and wallet. Jim
