Hail
Just wondering what others would do, or plan to do, if they knew a severe thunderstorm was coming and you could not move your rig. Amy options for preventing / limiting hail damage?

Find safe shelter for yourself. Worry about the trailer later. It can be repaired/replaced.

Family safety 1st. If I had time, I'd bring in my slides. Not much else you could do.

We've been lucky so far, but some of the recent hail near here (up to 4") would make it unsafe for even stick houses. As mentioned above, we go to the shelter and let the insurance protect the camper and the truck and car.

I have been thru the midwest many summers and have found very few campgrounds with a storm shelter. What do people do when a storm is coming???? Pray?? That seems about all you can do sometimes. Suggestions?

If they don't have a designated shelter I look for the sturdiest building on site with 24 hour access. Shower/bath house and laundry are sometimes concrete block construction. Not necessarily ideal, but better than the trailer. Last resort if time allowed no other option would be whatever building was available and go to the most interior room. If no particularly good option on site, and sufficient advance warning of approaching severe storm, I would probably head to the nearest large store such as a Walmart, Home Depot, etc. and go to their designated safe area. So far we have never had to do any of these, but always have it in the back of my mind and look around soon after arrival at a park during storm season.

Very appropriate discussion. We had baseball-size hail in Fort Smith today. I was driving home and zipped into Sonic under their canopy and waited it out. the car at home didn't fare as well. Lots of dents, and I don't think the Montana got any hail at the lot where it's stored right now. I really appreciate the advice here as we begin full-timing in about 4 weeks.
