Extended Warranty
I am researching extended warranties for my 2006 Mountaineer. We have had problems with a leak under the shower that took the dealer 3 times to fix. With the unit be under a year old I'm sure that we will have more problems done the road. Does anybody have a suggestion on which extended warranty to purchase?

I can't recommend a provider, but I will offer this. Go to the service manager of your expected service provider (dealer or independent RV shop) and ask him if they will work with the carrier and how prompt claims are paid. It might save considerable grief at claim time.
I have an extended warranty, but the company no longer markets the policy. They will honor the ones they have sold and I have used it with success. My one event more than recovered my cost of the seven year extention.

Check the dealer where you purchased the rig. I normally do not believe in extended warranties, but our dealer offered us one for seven years with $100 deductable at a rate so cheap I could not turn it down. One claim for a major appliance and it will have paid for it's self.

When we bought our 2000 Montana we also purchased a 7-year extended warranty for $1200 with a $50 deductible. It has more than paid for itself what with the hydraulic pump going out, a hydraulic line Tee breaking, and a new refrigerator. Though I didn't used to believe in extended warranties, I've found that they sure are handy when you need them. Get a reliable company.

I too am looking at these options, the two I've gotten pricing on is "The Choice" and "Star RV". The Choice seems to be less expensive and only a $50 deductible versus $100. Comparing them side by side they seem pretty equivalent.
Does anyone have first hand experience with either?

We feel that since we are going to be 'On the road" with this camper we need to go for the extended warranty and we will buy one soon. IMO it makes things a lot easier. We did as Stiles recommended..We went to our local dealer and asked them what warranty companies they have dealt with and which ones they would recommend. They recommended Star RV platinum Coverage administrated by: interstate national Dealer Services, Inc..

We have ours with Star RV. We got it through our dealer at time of purchase of the Monty. As it was part of the total deal I no longer remember what it cost us. Haven't used it but talked to others who have and they are totally satisfied.
With the exception of our computers, I don't normally bother with extended warranties but in the case of the Monty I felt it was a must considering it is our home.

Rich,
I just waited for my one year to almost be up, it seemed like it was a waste to have "double coverage" for a year. This way I get one year "free" and then an additional seven instead of seven total.

You are corrrect Mac but the warranty companies , knowing we will do that, charge more for the contract after the first year. I was told that we had to buy within 3 months of purchase to get the lowest price.. No deal..If they want the business they will offer the lowest price...

Mine is ending up to be the same price, on the StarRV one, that was the one I originally looked at, and one of the ones I'm looking at now. I know the other one went up about $60 but I think that's pretty cheap for a year. Now I'm still trying to decide which company to use and what plan. Geez!

We will go with Star Rv extended warranty. Every dealer I spoke to was very satisfied with their service..that means they paid promptly. They use the corporate credit card to pay clams..dealers and repair shops like that. The only no pay claims we heard about was when the consumer failed to get the proper authorization for the repair..all that means is a phone call to the company..and that was reported by only 1 dealer..

Thanks for your input Rich, there is a plan with StarRV that costs more, about $300 but there is no deductable. That's kind of what I'm considering now, it's a tough decision since basically it's insurance. Decisions, decisions.

I am into deductibles to reduce costs. I can handle deductibles. What I want to avoid is catastrophic loss. My deductible is $50. By-the-way, if it is available, buy a policy that will be transferrable. One of the selling points for my previously owned rig was that I inherited 5 years of a seven year warranty. The previous owner paid the one time $75 transfer fee.

I have "The Choice" extended warranty. I purchased it 3 months before my factory warranty expired. "The choice" coverage starts on the date of purchase of the warranty, not the coach. I ended up with a 8 year warranty, 1 year free from Keystone, and 7 years from my extended warranty. The reason I went with the choice is I have many good friends with $250,000+ Class A motorhomes and almost all of them have "The Choice" extended warranty. To date I have not heard one negative thing about this company. They are very easy to work with when it comes time to getting things repaired. I also like the $50 deductible instead of $100 that many other companies charge. Just my 2 cents worth...

The "Choice" mentioned by Montata Sky is also a excellent extended Warranty and IMO no different than "Star rv" We did look into Choice and spoke with the dealer Montana sky recommended..they even sent us a copy of the contract .That was a lock out, If the Warranty company would not provide a copy of the contract..no sale. There is no dealer nearby this area that sales the choice and I prefer to deal face to face. I als will go with a deductable that I can handle..
