Hey Tony, some time ago I read somewhere about someone did exactly what you are suggesting. He put a winch in the front compartment and cut out the floor. After raising the generator into position he puts some sort of metal bracing under generator to hold it in place. When he wants to use the generator he raises the generator slightly and pulls out the bracing and lowers the generator.

I posted installing a Honda 6500 on slide out bars utilizing the gen prep transfer switch but removing the aluminum box. The post was under Additions and Improvements and Honda 6500 installation. It was posted 12/13/2013 and had pics of the whole thing. I am still using the setup and it works out great for me...and no exhaust problems. At least gives you an idea of other installation possibilities.

Generator slide mount

I saw a generator mounted on a shelf that slid into the front basement on drawer glides. It was slid out to run and back in for storage and travel. There was a split cover to cover the door opening while the Genny was in use and it was protected from weather under the front while running. Sorry I don't have pics but you can contact me and I may be able to answer any questions.

For what it is worth, I considered dropping my 6500 down to the ground on a winch after cutting an opening, I didn’t over concerns of exhaust fumes directly below the opening and ground level problems. As far as a slide out tray, I wasn’t sure the tray would handle the weight of the 6500. My slide out and removable track handles the weight, keeps the gen off the ground, and being outside the fiver the gen exhaust hasn’t been a problem. I have used this setup since 2013 with absolutely no problems. I even found a wireless remote for the 6500.
