Where do you find a place to Boon-dock?
Just where do people Boon-dock? We did some of this when we took two months and went to Alaska in 1999, June-July. But sometimes we were run off by the police. The reason they gave was, "no boon-docking" within 10 miles of a campground. Even though we found them full and expensive for parking in a large parking lot. Some of our stops were abandoned roads off the main road, gravel pits, and the large dept store similar to our Sams or WalMart. They even had water and sewer and didn't charge because they wanted your business. Give me some ideas please.

Salle & Samuel,
Here is a nice place to start.
http://www.freecampgrounds.com/
I don't know about the east coast, but here in the west, we can boondock anywhere on National Forest or BLM land for 14 days.
Hope this helps.
Peace!

Thanks Robbie and Alice,
The more time I spend on this site, the more I learn. I'm still wondering, do you leave your rig for the day and sightsee, or is this just overnight? On my thread "do you leave your 5th wheel" they frown on leaving it unless in a campground.

If you happen to travel to the Texas/New Mexico area, the Guadalupe Mountains National Park has some great boondocking spots. If you enjoy mountain scenery and hiking (from easy to challenging), this should serve you well.

Is that the Wages Creek campground? It's a great spot, one of the few I've encountered where tent campers were right on the beach (well, they were above the tideline). I preferred being in the trailer when the wind came up.
vabluebird,
I think many of us are talking about camping without hookups when we discuss "boondocking." So, a state park campsite without electricity and water is "boondocking." At least, for me it is. If I need a generator, or have to conserve my battery, I'm boondocking.

I think most of us will agree that Boondocking means camping with no hookups, totally self sustained. Most of us prefer the FREE spaces such as BLM,or army corp, land, but many of the state parks have no hook-ups,and you PAY a fair price to Boondock!!! But you have to be self-sustaining to Boondock.

Thanks for the imput since I posted this.
I now understand what you mean by "boon-docking". We like to go to the Federal Forest Parks and use our Golden Eagle Pass. That makes it a lot cheaper. Any other ideas please post them here.
How about FLA. I hope to move out of the campground at least one week a month while there for 5 months this winter. We like to surf fish and didn't do any last winter.

Bill & Mariana Wages Creek campground is a cool campground too we have been there a few times but if you keep going to the north of there about 2 miles on your left is a little state park called Union landing no hook ups and I take the Gen. for power its the next little creek that you cross on hwy 1 howard cr. anyways you can camp right on the bluff overlooking the ocean well worth the trip the view is to kill for whale season will be here soon so we'll be up there with the telescope watching soon we plan on meeting another couple with a monty there the first week of Oct. so if your close come look us up

Found a great place to "boondock" on the way home from VT on I-84. At the Port Javis NY Information center they let you spend the night and have a sign "no trailer trucks between 7PM and 7AM. Made for a nice quiet night.

Here's a couple of pics of us boondocking a few weeks ago in the nat'l forest. No elec, water, or sewer, also no fees & minimal people. When the sun went down all you could see were the billions and billions of stars...it was awesome!! This is my favorite type of camping if we can find a spot.

Beautiful site!
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!
