Unhappy City water connection overflowing

Hooked up to the water at a campsite with a water regulator. Winterize is set to off. Tank fill is set to normal flow (versus fill). Pump is off. After a few hours there is a stream of water coming out of a port on the side of my 2014 Mountaineer.

To keep water from running out of this port I hook up to the fresh water connection and turn on the pump.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong or what should be checked.

Sounds like a bad check valve in your pump. The pumps are cheap and easy to swap out.

It's either replace the pump, highly unlikely you will be able to find a replacement check valve, though you could take it apart and try to clean out any debris in it keeping the valve open which allows water to flow back to the tank. I had the same situation some years ago and installed a check valve in the PEX on the pressure side of the pump which resolved the problem. It's still installed, even though I've since replaced the pump due to a different issue. In the photo, it's the brass fitting in the lower center of the photo.

Bob,

I had the same issue and added the check valve to prevent overflow while waiting on replacement pump, but now the pump clicks about every second or two. I don't need the pump with city connection but...bad pump?
