Thumbs down Proper Tire Selection

Our 2019 High Country 331RL's manufacturer's label indicates our unit needs ST 235/80R16 F tires. The Goodyear Endurance seems to get a lot of recommendations but the published Load Range is "E." Carlisle has a tire with an "F" Load Range, any thoughts on this brand? Are there any other recommendations for tires with Load Range "F"?

I would look at the Sailun S637 Trlr - ST235/80R16 129/125L G, if your wheels can handle the 110psi tire pressure which you may not need all 110psi if you are light enough. I am far from a expert, but I think going better cant hurt.

Someone with more experience please chime in.

No, not for F , but if your wheels are rated for 110 psi, I would go the Sailun S637 ST 235/80/16 G rated . Best tire for that fifth wheel on the market .

You may find that the F tire will give you a much stiffer ride while haveing more capacity than you need. I'd go with the Sailuns or the Goodyear. We have Sailuns on the Monty and Goodyear on our HC.

I think you got it backwards ,the F rated is less rated then G rated tire .

According to the specs I found for your trailer it has 6000# vehicle certified GAWRs. That means those LRF tires will provide you with 750# of load capacity per tire above minimum requirements at 95 PSI.

Three of the more popular brands - Maxxis, Sailun & GY - don't yet build that designated size in a LRF. Going to a LRG is sort of like going to a solid rubber tire, just too stiff for 6000# axle loads.

Just about all of the off shore brands build that tire in a LRF. Shop around and see if you can find one what is popular in your home area.

The Goodyear Endurance is a good tire and comes factory on all Jayco 5th wheels. Its made in the USA while the Sailun is China.

I didn't think about that but the G rated tires may just rattle a lighter trailer apart, like I said not an expert, but there are many here.

On another note the one thing that concerns me most is the suspension. So many issues in the forums with every aspect of suspension that I check everything from lug nuts to shackle bolts and everything in between before we leave and before we return. That being said I wont put any tire on any of my vehicles but Good Year, except the Montana, it will always have sailuns unless their quality changes, and I expect I will hear it here first.

Was talking about experience with the brand, should have worded it differently.

Your MHC331RL is rated for 110 psi tires. BUY Sailuns.

I am far from expert on tires, but I can tell you all about my experiences struggling with the OEM "E" rated tires that were on our 2012 3150RL 5th wheel. I got a few flats so I got a Tire Pressure Monitoring system and a Viair RV Tire Inflator and started really babying my tires. I bought new tires 6 at a time, carried the extra 2 unmounted, AND USED THEM ALL TWICE over 2 years! Usually I would find a bulge or slow leak before I had a road breakdown.

I kept asking tire salesmen and techs how I could do a better job with the tires, and finally FOUR YEARS AGO one of them suggested moving up to G rated. Problem solved. I haven't had a flat since. He said my rims could handle the G rated tires even though they have a radius 1/2" larger than the E rated tires.

BTW, it appears that all the new Montanas come with G rated tires now.

Buy Sailuns

I too highly recommend going with Sailuns. I switched to them this year on my HC and wish I had done it when it was new. Much nicer to tow and it seems my towing mileage was also gone up as well. I watched the prices for Sailuns on Simpletire.com and noticed every once in a while they have sale on the Sailuns that can't be beat anywhere < $135 / tire delivered.

Yes, our 2019 came with Sailun G load rating. It's my first big RV so I had never heard of a G rated tire but they seem to be bulletproof.

I put the Sailun 637 G rated on our 2020 330RL. I have absolutely NO regrets! I actually have a somewhat comfortable feeling knowing I have the G rated on the road. You would not be wrong doing this!

OP sorry I missed your initial post...we've been traveling. I have the same trailer you do (2020). It came with OE Ranier LRF tires. Belonging to several forums but not familiar with Raniers, I knew they have had issues. I had all tires replaced with Sailun S637 LRG tires before it left the lot. Wheels were rated for the 110psi.

IMO tires are like a truck.....hard to have too much. Admittedly if you go up several load ranges and run them at max you will have a rough ride. Going up one range doesn't do a thing in my several decades of messing with tires towing, 4 wheeling etc. I do air down after reaching a destination.

This year I have traveled back and forth across the country twice after putting on the Sailuns. A couple of things; I do not worry about a tire blowing out and tearing out the side of my trailer "because" and they ride no worse than OE tires. I am not impressed with the Road Armor suspension and I miss my MorRyde but I'm confident in the tires.
