Soon to be new Montana Legacy owners

Hello from California. My wife and I have been exploring travel trailers and fifth wheels for over a year and have finally decided on the 2021 3121RL Montana Legacy with the super solar package as we plan to do a lot of boondocking.

Since we are about to begin negotiations to order our unit, I am wondering what a fair discount off of MSRP we should expect?

Thanks for any advice and look forward to being members of this forum.

Welcome to the forum! We usually check several dealers online before we begin negotiations That way we know what a good deal should be. There are several dealers out there that some folks may have had issues with. I'm sure, if that's true someone will come on with the info.

Check out the thread named “2020 pricing”. In Feb 2017 we paid 65,850 for a new 2017 Montana 3721RL Legacy MSRP 112.244, but I suspect with all the demand right now the dealers are not as hungry as they were.
Hope you get a rig you like for a price you are willing to pay and have many years of enjoyment from it.

Old world wisdom, before the Covid induced RV shortage, 30-35% off msrp was a great starting point. I suspect watsonjones is correct on dealer hunger.

Welcome. What the fellas are saying I've found to be true for pricing. I don't believe you can get the best deal in CA. These dealers have too much overhead to cover. As such, we were actually planning to travel out of state to get ours when the locals called with a reasonable offer. It cost about $2000 more but it did save on the trip out of state. If you are in AG, you are probably looking at Sky River. They did us right and the new owners are interested in moving stock.

JMHO, if you are planning of going full time then dealer support is worthless. Your best tool is DIY. Getting you into the dealer line of RVs to be serviced including now required prep like sanitizing it and letting it sit for a day on top of getting the warranty work done means days to weeks out of service for you.... fine if you are a week warrior or occasional RV user... crappy if you are full time where you will be inconvenienced seriously for substantial time frames. Weigh such things carefully.

In that light, if you intend to full time with it... go nationwide to find the best price taking into account your time and cost to go fetch it. However if a local CA dealer can get you into your desired rig for only a 1000 more than a distant dealer it may be worth getting it from them. Dealers near the MFR will have the best prices but it will definite be worth it to consider the extra cost to bring it home to CA. Pete's RV, Tiara RV in Indiana are two that come to mind. YMMV as they say.

Solar Panels

We have a 2019 3121RL with solar panels. We have struggled with figuring out exactly how to get the most time running the Refrigertor. We get about 2 hours then the system starts beeping. If you have any information that can help us with understand that please share.

when we bought our new 2017, 3791RD the 'List Price' was $92,000. I offered $60,000. We settled at $64,000. I'd start in the 30% discount area, and see what happens. We also got ours after the spring RV show. That usually gets you a better price.

How many batteries and what type. Batteries are what powers your frig. Solar charges batteries.

Solar panels cannot run the fridge unless you have a lot of them, you need lots of battery amps (lots of batteries) to run your inverter that will run fridge. It’s all about the batteries.

I have a 2021 Montana 3121RL Legacy that I'll sell you for $65000. No solar panels but, very nice. We plan to buy a longer Montana in the spring.

Totally agree. I put 800 watts on the roof (48V series) with a 60A MPPT charge controller. Runs the fridge and keeps the batteries charged off the cord all day long with virtually no issues. Haven't tried to run unplugged overnight as I'm afraid of toasting our batteries.

Saving our nickels and dimes for lithium. Had 400W solar and two Battle Born's in our class C. Would run everything (including our Isotherm Cruise 195 fridge) all night without breaking a sweat. They put an end to my "battery anxiety".

We sold our C and found our Montana on RV Trader. Used other dealers deals against our Florida dealer. Was prepared to pick ours up in Elkhart. Florida dealer eventually agreed to our price.

Ordered 2021 Montana 3120RL Sept. 20th. from a dealer 30 min. from me. I priced 3 different dealers in ohio, michigan. Local dealer won, options include; 300w solar, 5500w generator, slide toppers, all packages including Legacy package, no paint, 2" towing hitch, king bed. 71,165 + tax . worked out to be 33% off.

Dec delivery is what the say. I hope. good luck.

We have a 2021 3121RL on order with every thing except super solar and no Cottage White (we got the flex solar and the Cobblestone furniture). Paint is Cobalt, delivery Dec. (hopefully). Just under 75k (no tax/title). Looking forward to going fulltime once our house is sold (going on market soon). Plan is to divide our time between RV and boat, should be interesting...
