Setting that day can be stressful. Even if you hate your job and even if you have planned well and know in your head that everything is in order, actually doing it can be stressful when you have worked all your life. I was scared to death till I actually woke up that first Monday that I didn't have to go to work. But it always seems to work out better then you even planned. Once you figure out that you don't have to do a dang thing unless you want too, and the bills are still paid and food is on the table,,,,,life is great, ahhhhhhh..........Have fun now the rest of your life....

You gave your retirement notice on April Fool's day and you're serious? That's almost as bad as when I retired on January 13, 2006 and my boss replied, "Really, on Friday the 13th?" I said, "Absolutely, if that's a bad luck day then it can only get better after that, right?" Then the economy tanked and so did my investments. At least April Fool's day can't be a Friday the 13th, too.
Congrats on your retirement plans. May the last few months of employment be ever so tolerable. And may your anticipation be worth all the stress.

I had a old timer tell me that the best day is the day that you know you could actually retire if you wanted to. I retired 13 years ago and the wife retired Aug 1st. Free to do as we please when we please. When anyone ask me what I do now that I am retired my ansewer is "Any damm thing I want to." Its great, you will love it.

Congrats! You will be living the dream. DW and I have 3 more years left to pay on our radio station. Hoping not long after that we can at least due more traveling and someday sell it.

Congratulations on the up coming retirement. You have made a good goal, and this winter will be your last one on someone else's schedule. I was once told how to have a short winter… borrow money in the fall and set the due date for the spring.  Hope you have a great retirement.

I remember the day I decided to retire. The day before if you were to ask when I was going to retire I would have said NEVER I'm having to much fun working. That morning I was on my 60 foot walk to my shop and I thought "I sure wood like to go for a walk in the woods." Then I thought you cant go for a walk in the woods you have got too much to do. Before I got to my shop, in less than 10 seconds I had decided to retire. I've got 3 fine younger men working in the shop now. They get all the money they make and I get to goof off and pretend I'm doing something useful. What I've found is you can't replace 50 years experience with 2 years of enthusiasm. They will need me around for a while longer but 95% of the time they do just fine.

Retired in 2005 thanks to my wifes retirement package with paid insurance. I don't know how I got things done when we were working and a short time to get ready when traveling. We did it in a matter of hours and now it takes 2 days to get ready. Never a dull day and it has gone by too fast. So many people ask, "what do you do, and don't you get bored". NOT! They just don't understand.
