Interesting info about Propane cyls.
Got this link this morning. http://www.npga.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=529
Very informative and I have seen maybe a dozen of these in Ga. at exchange facilities. Scary situation. While we were on the road I checked the Milw. Journal site for state news and they have had a lot of labs caught and destroyed this last year. Time to keep an eye out..Dave

But... but drugs are a "victimless crime" and .... oh well... Thanks for the heads up on green tank valves.

I haul Propane tankers in winter and BLUE RHINO cylinders in summer, currently I have 1152- 20 pounders in my box trailer and we just had a 2 day hazmat course on this very topic[and other stuff] and saw this same type of valve[corroded] we were told they can't be reloaded and are discarded; this would never get to the customer and most likely be found in a dump on the side of the road. I see a lot of these cylinders and never seen one like those you speak of.

We have been responding to these types of incidents in the Hazmat arena of the Fire Service for years now. They also like to booby trap their cook house. Fun stuff...NOT.

Very interesting link.
I have kinda known about the green valves for sometime but I never really knew the reason for them turning green. I did know I wasn't going to buy one.
BUT just 2 weeks ago I did buy a full 20# tank at a yard sale. I saw it as soon as I walked into the yard. It was a bit dirty but in excellent condition. I immediately felt the weight and it was full. The date on the cylinder was 2002, it's good for 12 years from manufacture. Asked how much they wanted for it. I couldn't believe it when they said "$5.00". Needless to say I now have a full 20 pounder for my gas grill or as a spare for the Monty. Sometimes you just fall into it and come up smelling like a rose.
