Credit Cards for Fuel Purchases
Hi Everyone: I have many questions to ask, but only one for today. Does anyone use a credit card to purchase fuel, that offers a rebate for gas purchases? If so what kind of card have some of you used with good rebates? Thanks for all the good info. We will be looking forward to meeting many new people at the rally.

We use a Citi Dividend Card. It's a mastercard offered by Citibank.
Go to www.citicards.com and review their offers. I received a $213.00 check from them three weeks ago.

We have a Citi Credit card that gives you 1% on all purchases whether it is gas or at a grocery store. If you purchase Exxon or Mobil gasoline or buy tires, oil changes etc at their stations you receive 3% credit. When you receive your bill you have a rebate credit that they apply to your Exxon purchases. You don't get your rebate unless you buy gas each month from Exxon. They will carry your rebate over until the next month but I have never had a problem using gas. We have saved or $1800.00 using this card.

We use a Chase Visa card that gives us 5% rebate on fuel and grocery prices. At 3 bucks a gallon that's $.15 cents a gallon savings and you are not restricted to certain brands of fuel but the savings becomes 16 cents when you add the Flying J card. Our rebate comes to us in form of a check and not a credit.

There are so many that do that. We do use dedicated cards for fuel and travel and pay on the due date. On our most recent trip we saved on fuel cost by using our Speedway America card , discover card and our flying J card, Using dedicated cards also helps to track expenses.

We also used citi and chase that paid back 5% on fuel purchases. Recently I aquired a mastercard from USAA Savings Bank that refunds 10% on fuel purchases, 1% on everything else. So thats what I am using now.

We use Chase Visa - I get 5% on Fuel, Grocery's, and Pharmacy products. Limit pay back per year is $300.00 - So Christa got her own card. We collected 300 each last year by checks. THAT WAS NICE.... Now Ken above is talking about a USAA Card 10% is worth looking into....

We just started using Walmart's card for fuel. Thankfully, they sell diesel here in Ozark, AL, (unlike many of the Walmart or Sam's Club fuel stations.)
In Alabama, they cant give a direct discount at the pump. So, we can get $.03/gallon off in our billing. At least that's what the signs on the pumps say. The first purchase we made showed up with a discount on the billing website. But the second purchase didn't show the discount. I havent seen the third purchase show up, yet...I've sent an e-mail off to them to straighten things up.
I hope.

Steve, We also have the Wal*Mart card and we do fill up at WallyWorld but with the Chase Visa and get $.15 cents (at $3. a gal) off instead of just .03 cents using the WallyWorld card. BUT no discount inside because Wal*Mart is a department store and does not differentiate between groceries and other purchases. Therefore we do not get the 5% on groceries.

We use the Wal-Mart shopping card for the .03 at the pump discount (they are often cheaper than the competion anyway). We add $$$ to the card with a Discover card, so we also get the Discover kickback by mail.

Ive decided that I dont need to change credit cards any more.
I use the ones through my credit union, and do all my banking with them on line. I know I could get a Chase card, but then Id have to remember another ID and password.
Im way past caring a bit that stuff, even if it could save me a few more dollars a year.
As a matter of fact, (Checking my wallet,) I already HAVE a Chase card. It used to be Bank One. Hmmm
Maybe Ill check into it and see if I can get that discount.
Ive just been hanging onto that one for emergencies, like when a website wont take my main credit card for some reason. Most often because we dont want stuff ordered to be shipped to our home of records, any more.

Ken could you provide more information on the USAA card and the 10% fuel discount?
I went to their web site and I couldn't find anything specific.

Re Discover Card.
We've been using it for years, and about a year ago signed up for auto pay...they automatically take out the full amount of the bill every month. Recently I checked some dates, and they are taking the payment out 10 days to two weeks before the due date...all other companies take payment on the due date. Long story short, called them, wrote a snail mail letter and they refuse to change, so we now do not use their card.

I have 2 visa cards, both are airline mileage cards that earn free trips. One is used to purchase everything over $1, and then paid off in full each month. The other is a back up card that is used 2 or 3 times a year to keep it active. I sure like the free 1st class plane rides abroad... =)

Amen to the free trips abroad. I Can't believe some of the rates some of these cards are charging. The bigger the refund to the consumer, the higher the interest rate is also. One heck of an insentive to have 0 bal. every month.

I think we have the same card as Glenn and Lorraine. 5% on fuel, groceries, and lodging and some other things. Ours is an AT&T MasterCard but I got a letter they're being taken over by Chase or Citibank or someone and we'll receive new cards. We'll pick up our mail tomorrow so will likely have the new cards then. It certainly helps. Ours is limited to $300 in rebates per year. That's $6000 in fuel purchases. Last year we hit the 300 limit by the first of November.
