F350 ignition keys
I was told by my Ford dealer when I bought my 05 F350 that only the $90 key would work to start the engine. Well, today I got my new Ford keys cut at the local hardware store. I went to program them as the directions say must be done to start the truck. Guess what, the new keys started the engine without being programed.
Is there something I don't understand?

Well, there is NO PATS KEY system in the F350 diesel. I have 2 expensive keys that I didn't need. Hope this saves someone some money. Wish someone would have posted this before I spent my hard earned money for this bit of education!!!

Are you saying that you have to have some sort of electronic key to get the truck to work? What is a "PATS KEY"?

The keys for the F-350 are "regular keys", with a separate remote if one has remote entry. Some vehicles have progarmming in the key, but the '05 superduty doesn't.

On page 79 of your F-Series Super Duty 2005 Owners Guide it states that in part, "keys are programmed to your vehicle, using a non programmed key your vehicle will not start..." Well, this may be true for the gasoline version but not my diesel.
