Performance chip

We tow with a 1999 Dodge with the CTD engine. Has anyone added a performance chip. More interested in fuel mileage than power. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Can't speak for the Dodge but I added a performance chip to my Ford and it increased milage solo about 3mpg and towing about 2mpg.

Dennis, I had a 2001 2500 with Banks power pak (included exhaust, intake manifold & air filter + power chip) didn't see much change in mileage but plenty more power. Lost the automatic trans N47 at 97000 miles Dodge replaced it under 100,000 mile warranty and I added a Banks Torque convertor at the same time. Sold it to a friend and he loves the truck.(wish Dodge was as good to me now as they were then see DODGE WARRANTY PROBLEMS)

I'm starting out as a newbie.
I have a 2004 Dodge 3500 diesel duelly pulling a Mountaineer 348RLS. Do I need to look at chips or just use the horses I have?

Danny, my own personal opinion is you have plenty. A chip gives you more if that makes you more comfortable. I'd recommend you try it stock first and then decide if you want a chip. I'm perfectly happy with mine bone stock but others may feel differently.

Don't know about dodge. But ford will void you warranty in heart beat if they think mods (started when they had all the troubles with the early 06's. some dealers try to look the other Way but ford reps are not and certain repairs will trigger them having to clear with ford first.

I never did any modes and the last straw with me was when they tried saying I did mode and tried to void warranty. I won by forcing them to down load the black box that has every thing recorded (engine parameter's) amassing what these black box's, they have can do. was even mention in the book about how when and who could access this info.

So if you mod beprepared to pay.

I agree with Steve. We have a stock 2005 3500 Dually and find that it has plenty of power. Our 2003 2500 was a bit underpowered, but it had the Standard Output engine instead of the HO.

Aside from not needing the extra power from mods, I didn't think the risk of losing warranty coverage is worth it. In addition, when you start to add power from mods, you have to add gauges to monitor exhaust temps, turbo, etc. It starts to get expensive.
