I cannot take credit from this idea. We were visiting at member Steves' home when he showed me this trick and even gave me a magnetic tool picker upper to use. I eventually wore that one out and bought this one for around $3 or $4 at Harbor Freight. I have a spare, just in case...

Agree fully with Rondo about the hookup memory level. We always use ours.

I raise my power seat to the highest position so I can see over the roll up tonneau. It helps. I like the magnetic tool idea. I'm going to use it. Thanks

I use the white paint but sometimes my rolled up cover blocks the stripe. I found my magnetic pu tool so I will try it tomorrow.

One small enhancement is to make a 'range marker' on your pin. Put a piece of black tape on your trailer, centered on the width. Put a piece of white tape onthe middle of the front of your pin box. When the two tapes are over each other you are lined up withe axis of the trailer. Line these up with the mag tool and you are dead on the middle and lined up on the hitch.

Old sailor's trick :>}

Good idea, pbahlin. I'm not sure how accurately I could position the tape, though! Trial and error is my friend.

Although I have used the tolerance of the hitch, side-to-side, to get lined up, I feel that it stresses the landing gear a bit. I'll try to remember to try the magnetic sight on our next outing, which is the the dealer to have our new Corian countertop installed, courtesy of Nic Davis (I think I've remembered his name correctly) at Keystone.

If you paint white stripes on the tail gate on each side of the hitch it really helps a lot .. i have a short box and it works great ;;;sailer

I have a system similar to Steve's. I also added a thin white vertical rod to the inside center of my rear window which helps a little. It eliminates the parallax and eliminates any need to worry about the mirror orientation when using the rear view mirror.

I like CB traveler's addition, too. I've been closing one eye and trying to line up on the OnStar buttons, but I can't remeber which eye...

I must be wierd I can see the hitch on the Dodge in the rear view mirror. But then again I have the Dodge bucket seat that with the push of a button raise pretty high.
But there seems to be plenty of people around to tell me how I am doing it wrong all the time so maybe its them giving me orders how to drive LOL
