Whoooeyyyyy! Great to be home, fixed three water leaks, moved a bunch of stuff from the rig to the house and tonight Beau cornered two, not one but two porkies under the back porch. Amazingly enough he didn't get one quill in him. There was about a 10 pound baby (cute as hell) and a 40 pound mama also cute but damn big.
The last time he tangled with a porcupine it cost me 200 dollars in emergency vet bills. He got 400+ quills in his face and paws. He got lucky this time. Just waiting for the skunks to show up to make the week complete....

Glad you're home and the water leaks weren't too bad. Not sure which is worse, quills or skunks. The quills hurt the dog, but then there is the wonderful aroma from the skunk!

I have successfully dealt with a half dozen skunk "attacks" using a one pound box of baking soda, a pint of hydrogen peroxide, and a tablespoon of Dawn dish soap. You just work the mixture into a lather and leave it on the dog for a half hour then rinse. That takes ALL the smell away. When dealing with a porcupine the situation is a bit different. If there just a few quills protruding from your pet then you can clip the ends of the quills off them pull the remainder out with pliers. If there are more that a dozen or so quills involved then a trip to the vet is advised, it can get quite bloody. So when I am given the choice between skunk and porky I will ALWAYS choose skunk.

What's your plan if your poor pooch gets sprayed by a skunk, then turns around and runs smack into a porcupine? Sounds like you need to invest in a Hockey goalie's mask and a doggy shaped body suit.

Next time it's a skunk use tomato juice, but about 5 cans of it and bath fido, rubbing it in real good. Rinse and the smell is gone.

Hi Dave ;;Glad you made to cold country..We are still in SC and today it was 100 so its warm ... we are now a 1 dog house as we had to put tiffy down in early may ,, so its only maggie;;we hope to get in the smokies tomorrow for about 10 days then on to a little rally with bob wilson in ID then up to wis by july 2 ,, we have the place 4 sale as you do and hope to get a offer soon as we want to get to 1 place and the 5th wheel .. hope to see you guys this summer ;;;sailer
