Thought I was forgetful...
I followed a SOB fiver up Hwy 77 a ways, the handle on the steps was out. Yep, I've had to stop and fold that in, and put the antenna down. But, just below Bryan, TX on Hwy 21, I saw my first. A fiver coming down the highway with the BR slide all the way out. Perhaps they had a mechanical problem, but there is no way I tow a fiver with the slide out!

I've not seen that on the highway but I did see one being towed on major streets. But it had a chase car with amber blinking lights so it looked like it was being escorted to an RV service place. As I drove past it on another lane I saw it also had a front escort too. Obviously, they knew about their problem.

That is why it is so important to do a final walk-around with you and the DW going in opposit directions. Just to check for little things like forgetting to coil and stow the 50 amp cable ($150), forgetting to put down your antenna ($150), and forgetting to fold up your steps ($150 to $450). Don't ask me how I know about these things.

We were in an RV dealer store and Earlene was asked by some one else that was in the store browsing, if we could go down the highway with the slides out. Duh! Of course she was very nice and just said "No, that would be very dangerous."
A few days later she saw a trailer coming from a side road, (FM-517) with slides out. Traffic was to heavy for her to turn around and inform that driver. I'm sure they must have found out soon enough.

The worst I've done (thus far) is drive off with the tank drain cover hanging. But the point well made is that, every once in a while, you can miss the BIG stuff as easily as the little stuff. Checklist!

One thing after reading these threads is that they’re a good reminder for rechecking things. Also, those of us who winterize and leave their camper sitting all winter could get out of sequence on something easier than maybe those who full time. I think it can take a trip or two to get back in the normal swing of things; so speaking mostly for myself, we need to be extra careful on the first trip back out.

The biggest problem with the checklist I created is I don't know where it is. I should have created a line item for checking where I store it. Fortunately, I am a pretty visual person and I can still picture the list of things I wrote. Until someone interrupts me, then I have to start over. I still haven't found it. I do remember seeing "check all slides" as one of the last items before driving away.
Hey lasater, please tell me where you can find a $150 50 amp cord. Everywhere I look around here they are about $300! Yuck!

Best price for a 30' heavy duty 50 amp. was at Camping World. Don't remember the exact but it was under $200.00.
I don't use a check list when hooking up, however after hooking up everything, I do a complete walk around and make sure everything is as it should be. The smartest thing to do is make sure your not talking to your neighbor, in most cases thats when you over look something. Many of us at one time or another has heard the comment "Attention to Detail" thats my policy. But if you do use a checklist there certainaly is nothing wrong with that procedures. GBY....

That was exactly my thoughts. I thought about turning around and giving chase; but dang, if he can't see a slide out in his mirror, you think he is gonna see me?
