Gulf Shores AL to Hannibal MO

Planning 55 north but concerned about Memphis area. One switch on 55 north has a 270 degree ramp with short entrance and concerned about bridge heigth.
Any suggestions

There used to be an underpass on I-55 north in Memphis that was 12' 6". We take US 49 to Dyersburg,TN cross into Mo and go north on I-55 now

I hate going through Memphis. Between the bouncy approach to Memphis from from AR, the tight turns at the river crossing, the traffic and the rough roads, we choose to go a different route.

We cross the Mississippi at Cruthersville, MO and take I155 then US412 towards Jackson then US45 and US alt 45 through Tupelo and on south. All of the route is decent road and much of it is four lane divided highway. You do go through a few towns but it's worth it to miss Memphis and it doesn't add a lot of extra miles. We do this route twice a year.

Oh my goodness! Memphis is a mess. We went thru and absolutely freaked out about the low clearance headed south. I was certain that I would be replacing vent covers or AC shrouds with the low clearances. My wife was actually ducking and closing her eyes! We made it with a few scratches on top of the vent covers however I will NEVER go that route again.

If you take 55N-240W-40W-55N you will avoid the 270 degree ramp at 55 onto the bridge. As far as low clearance, I've driven both and there is no problem. Trucks routinely use both routes without issue.
