Island Park, ID, to Minden, NV, 9/15-19

We're pulling out of Red Rock RV Park, Island Park, ID, tomorrow (Thursday) morning. We'll overnight at Beverly Hills CG in Wells, NV, on Thursday night, then spend Friday thru Sunday nights at Desert Rose RV Park in Fernley, NV. Then on to Minden on Monday. Anyone in or near those parks, please let us know or stop by.

Our route is
US 20 south from Island Park to Idaho Falls,
I-15 south to Pocatello, ID
I-86 west to Twin Falls, ID
US-93 south to Wells, NV
I-80 west to Fernley, NV
I-80 west to Reno, NV
US 395 south to Minden, NV.

We've already done US 50 east of Carson City so are taking a slightly longer route to see something different rather than US 50 from Fernley.

If you see us please flash lights twice. We'll watch for you and do the same.

YIPPPPPPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!! We'll have TV again!!! Thirty-one days without TV has been a real challenge for this hard-care, dyed-in-the-wool, self-admitted TV addict. I made it, but I'm definitely counting the hours until I can channel surf again ... 29 and counting!

If you are passing through Jackpot, Nv. about lunch time Cactus Pete's has a great buffet. Don't have to play the games, just go in and eat. Plenty of parking available or if you want to overnight, they have a very good campground next to the casino with full hookups and I think they have cable TV!!!!

Sue ... we've talked about DirectTV, but even the two people with it whom I contacted to tape my very favorite show weren't able to pick up that particular network. Thank heavens for an extensive DVD library (360 to be exact) ... I just counted and as of the one I'm now watching, I've watched 78 movies since we've been here. I would have gone out of my mind without my movies! However, I'm really, REALLY ready for some commericals and news and channel surfing!!!

Vicki, we're at Yakama RV park, south of Yakima, and for the first time in 75 days we have both Direct TV AND WiFi AND our cell phones work! Are we in heaven? Well, I guess it would take a lot more to be heaven but it's amazing to have all these luxuries after driving to Alaska.

Isn't funny how many things change when we have a life style change? Having been in retail for so many years, and hearing nothing but commercials on the overhead speakers, and phones ringing and my phone ringing off the hook all the time, when we went camping in the RV, the best part for me was NO phone, NO TV, and just plain NO Noise! Now, I've been away from work just two short months and I do beleive I miss a little bit of the Noise. I'm not at the point of craving it yet, however, I also have to admit I do already have a couple of shows I like to watch each week. Am I doomed?

Vicki, when you make your trek to Alaska (hopefully) you'll be glad that you have all those DVDs. We were without TV much of the time and often had only Canada TV the rest of the time. Our familiar programs weren't offered. We watched our three seasons of "Everybody Loves Raymond" about three times during the trip. But they're good even the third time around.

Judy,
I have a favor to ask. When we are at the rally, please, please don't mention no TV. I will never get Ed to go to Alaska if he thinks there is no TV. And he is the one that has always talked about going.
Happy trails....................

Oh,oh, Sue. Mumm's the word. Just start buying him lots of DVDs. It was a great idea for Christmas gifts, etc. for our kids. Maybe you should start taping the news, sports reports, etc. so you can play them for Ed when you go to Alaska.

We did really enjoy getting the updates when we were in the big cities. Made us appreciate the connections. I think we did miss out on some of the news though.

Thanks, Charlie. I didn't see your lunch suggestion until today, long after we passed through Jackpot. I don't recall the time we went through there but it would have been about right for lunch or a late lunch.

Vicki did really well without TV. She quit smoking years ago so I knew she could kick TV. But, alas, we both have backslid on the TV issue since getting back to good cable TV. I don't watch much but sure missed having headline news or the history channel on while I shaved in the morning. And, of course, we had no tv to watch the terrible news about Katrina. We had wifi so got our news via the internet. But that's not the same.
