Help Please

We are staying in Colorado Springs for a week, and the cable on our slide broke (just the latest in a series of fails) can anyone out there recommend an RV repair service in the COS area who makes “house calls”?

While in Dallas area during the Holidays I needed Mobile Service so I just "googled" it and found several and then just picked one. They were great, expensive but good response and did a good job. Should be several mobile techs there in COS.
Good luck.

You might also ask the CG owners if they can recommend anyone. They are usually pretty knowledgable about that sort of thing.

Also, on Facebook there is a group called "mobile RV repair companies across the US and Canada that has an amazing data base. Anyone who full times should belong to that group. Also if you use Coach-Net they also have a smaller data base, but did get me in the front of the line once instead of having to wait the week I was quoted.

One addendum: Not “reasonable”. $675 to replace one slide cable.

Just curious - how many hours did it take for them to do the work?

I actually transposed the numbers... it was $647. They sent a guy out Fri afternoon late, so he had to come back Monday ($125 for the first call, $75 for the second). He was here 3 hours at $150 per (standard rate, but way too long, in my opinion). Then the charged $149 to adjust the second slide . To add insult, I helped the guy the whole time, since it was really a 2-man job. Also, had to loan him a few of my tools (crimper, ladder, wire cutter).

Sorry for your troubles and glad it is fixed. You may want to look at an extended warranty. When we bought our unit, we made sure we had one. There are a number of places that offer them. Safe travels.

Not that it would get you anywhere, but I would send them a bill for your time and tool rental.
Might get across that you felt over charged.

That is the most expensive hourly rate and never had 2 service call charges for one call. My last was $80 service call and $90 per hour. He came back with parts to finish the following day and no service call charge. The mobile tech I use at home is $80 for the service call no matter how many times he has to return for the repair and $80 per hour. Besides, 3 hours for a cable replacement is also excessive. He should be sending you Christmas cards forever IMO.

Wow you were really swindled on that deal! I had a cable repacked by a mobile tech and it took about an hour and he charged me $180!

Sometimes we're in a bind and have to get it done. Sometimes that's life. In Washington State, I arrived at a campground that only had 30A hookup. I was stunned that I didn't have a dogbone 30 to 50 connector. On a Saturday night, the only store (NAPA) I could find with one charged $38. I know that's approximately 3 times more than it should cost. That's not going the last time we have to suck it up to avoid a bad situation.

Easier to take a $15 - $20 hit than a $400 hit. His tech should have pointed a gun with that bill!

If something is urgent, some may help if they have sufficient knowledge. One day I had a breakdown and started to figure out what was going on at the track. The guy stopped in a van and asked if I needed help and just offered him some money, but he said he wanted to do a good deed and didn't need anything. About 5 minutes after he left, this guy spent 40 minutes of his time getting his clothes dirty, but he didn't ask for anything in return. Be kinder to the people around you!
